Senior Software Engineer - Backend

Scalio | Bengaluru, India | On-site | Full-time

Compensation: ₹30–60 LPA annual fixed salary plus equity. Equity terms discussed during hiring.

The role

Build and improve the services behind Scalio’s web and mobile products. Own backend features through design, implementation, rollout, and production support, with a focus on correctness and reliable execution.

What you’ll work on

• Production APIs and database-backed services.
• Background processing, provider integrations, and generation workflows.
• Query performance, caching, concurrency, and data consistency.
• Usage accounting and billing-related backend behavior.
• Tests, monitoring, safe releases, and incident resolution.

What we’re looking for

• 4+ years of professional software engineering experience.
• Strong API design, relational database, and asynchronous processing skills.
• Experience debugging production failures and performance bottlenecks.
• Ability to deliver maintainable changes in an existing codebase.
• Ownership of correctness, operational behavior, and customer impact.

Strong plus

High-volume background jobs, AI service integrations, payments, observability, and cloud infrastructure.

Required written questions

1. What is the most demanding backend service you have shipped? Explain your contribution, scale, and a difficult problem you solved.

2. Share something you built and identify your personal contribution.

3. An API’s latency doubles as traffic grows. How would you investigate, and what evidence would guide your first fix?

4. How would you prevent duplicate processing and duplicate credit deductions when a job is retried?

5. Describe a database migration or release you handled safely. How did you manage compatibility and recovery?

6. Tell us about a production defect you caught through testing or monitoring. What did you change afterward?
