AI & Backend Engineer - L1

About the Role

We are looking for an AI & Backend Engineer - L1 who is interested in building practical AI-powered applications and backend systems.

The candidate will work with our development team across different projects involving Artificial Intelligence, Generative AI, APIs, backend systems, databases, automation and integrations.

Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain backend applications and REST APIs using Python.
• Integrate AI/LLM capabilities into applications and business workflows.
• Work with AI APIs and implement practical Generative AI solutions.
• Build and maintain AI-powered features such as document processing, question answering, text generation, classification and analysis.
• Work with databases and design efficient data storage and retrieval solutions.
• Develop integrations with third-party APIs and external services.
• Implement asynchronous/background processing where required.
• Debug, test and improve backend and AI-related functionality.
• Work with senior developers to understand requirements and convert them into technical solutions.
• Participate in code reviews and follow development best practices.
• Write clean, reusable and maintainable code.
• Research and evaluate new AI tools, models and technologies when required.
• Troubleshoot issues across development and production environments.

Must-Have Skills

Programming & Backend

• Strong knowledge of Python
• Good understanding of Object-Oriented Programming
• Good understanding of REST APIs
• Hands-on experience with at least one Python backend framework:
• FastAPI
• Django / Django REST Framework
• Flask
• Understanding of HTTP methods, status codes, authentication and API concepts
• Basic understanding of asynchronous programming in Python

AI / Generative AI

• Good understanding of Generative AI and LLM concepts
• Hands-on experience with at least one LLM API such as OpenAI, Gemini, Claude or similar
• Understanding of:
• Prompt engineering
• Context and token limitations
• Structured AI responses
• AI API integration
• Hallucinations and AI response validation
• Basic understanding of RAG (Retrieval-Augmented Generation)
• Understanding of embeddings and semantic search is a strong advantage

Database

• Good understanding of databases
• Hands-on experience with at least one of:
• PostgreSQL
• MongoDB
• MySQL
• Understanding of queries, indexing and basic database design

Development Tools

• Good understanding of Git
• Familiarity with GitHub / GitLab / Bitbucket
• Basic knowledge of Docker
• Ability to work with APIs using tools such as Postman
• Comfortable working with Linux-based development environments

Good-to-Have Skills

Candidates with experience in any of the following will have an advantage:

• RAG applications
• Vector databases such as Qdrant, Pinecone, Weaviate, Chroma or pgvector
• LangChain / LlamaIndex
• AI agents
• Document/PDF processing
• OCR
• Redis
