About the role

We are looking for a Senior Backend Engineer with 4–6+ years of professional backend development experience to design, build, scale, and own critical parts of our platform.

This role is for someone who can go beyond writing code — someone who can understand a business problem, make sound technical decisions, design scalable solutions, ship them to production, and take ownership of the system throughout its lifecycle.

You will work across APIs, databases, third-party integrations, real-time automation, distributed systems, and production infrastructure.

The tech stack is flexible. Strong engineering fundamentals, ownership, and the ability to learn quickly matter more than expertise in one specific framework.

What you'll build

• High-performance backend APIs using Java, Node.js, Python, Go, or other suitable technologies
• Integrations with advertising platforms such as Facebook Ads, Google Ads, LinkedIn, TikTok, YouTube, and others
• Data-intensive systems operating on 2TB+ databases and billions of data points
• Real-time automation for campaign management, budget pacing, campaign rules, and optimization
• Reliable systems for processing and analyzing large-scale advertising data
• Developer tools and internal automation that improve engineering productivity
• Monitoring, debugging, and optimization of production systems

Example Projects

• Build real-time budget monitoring systems to prevent overspending across hundreds of campaigns
• Develop systems that generate actionable insights for advertisers using billions of data points
• Design and integrate APIs for new advertising platforms
• Optimize database queries and data pipelines handling large-scale time-series data
• Build automation systems that make campaign operations faster and more reliable
• Identify and resolve production bottlenecks affecting millions of API requests

What you'll do

• Own backend features and services end-to-end — from technical design to deployment and production monitoring
• Design scalable, reliable, and maintainable backend architectures
• Develop and maintain high-performance REST APIs and backend services
• Design and optimize database schemas, queries, indexes, and transactions
• Work with large-scale and time-series datasets and identify opportunities for performance optimization
• Integrate and maintain third-party APIs and external systems
• Investigate and resolve complex production issues with a strong focus on root-cause analysis
• Design systems for reliability, observability, scalability, and fault tolerance
• Collaborate with product, frontend, data, and engineering teams to translate business requirements into technical solutions
• Make pragmatic technical decisions in an environment where requirements may evolve rapidly
• Review code, improve engineering standards, and contribute to architectural decisions
• Mentor junior and mid-level engineers and help raise the overall engineering bar
• Continuously evaluate new technologies and adopt them when they provide meaningful technical or business value

Must Have Skills - Backend Engineering

• 4–6+ years of professional backend development experience
• Strong hands-on expertise in at least one of:
• Java
• Node.js
• Python
• Go
• Strong understanding of backend architecture, software design principles, and API development
• Proven experience designing and implementing production-grade REST APIs
• Strong understanding of scalability, reliability, performance, and maintainability

Database & Data

• Strong SQL fundamentals and practical experience with relational databases
• Understanding of indexing, query optimization, transactions, concurrency, and database design
• Experience working with large datasets and performance-sensitive applications
• Ability to identify and troubleshoot database bottlenecks

Cloud & Infrastructure

• Hands-on experience with at least one major cloud platform — AWS, GCP, or Azure
• Understanding of deployment, monitoring, logging, and production infrastructure
• Strong Git proficiency and experience with modern software development workflows

Engineering & Ownership

• Proven track record of shipping production-grade features
• Experience owning features from design → development → deployment → monitoring
• Strong debugging and problem-solving skills
• Experience handling critical production issues and making decisions under pressure
• Ability to work independently with limited supervision
• Strong communication and collaboration skills
• Ability to operate effectively in ambiguous and rapidly changing environments

Nice to have

• Experience with Time-Series databases, particularly TimescaleDB
• Experience with Kafka, Redis, or other distributed messaging/caching systems
• Experience with Docker and Kubernetes
• Experience with Spring Boot, Express, FastAPI, or similar frameworks
• Experience integrating third-party APIs, particularly advertising or marketing APIs
• Experience working with Facebook Ads, Google Ads, LinkedIn, TikTok, YouTube, or similar platforms
• Experience designing distributed or event-driven systems
• Startup or high-growth company experience
• Experience with observability tools, distributed tracing, and performance monitoring
