Full Stack Engineer

RoomSmith India
Kolkata metropolitan area, West Bengal, India

Company Description

RoomSmith is an AI-assisted home-planning platform that transforms interior inspiration into practical plans tailored to real spaces, budgets and requirements. By combining AI, design thinking and product discovery, RoomSmith helps users understand what could work in their space, what to buy or customise, and how to move from concept towards execution.

Role Description

The Full Stack Engineer will work closely with the founder to develop and improve RoomSmith’s web platform. Responsibilities include building and maintaining front-end interfaces and back-end services, integrating AI-powered features and APIs, developing customer and vendor workflows, optimising performance, and turning the existing prototype into a reliable product. The role also involves debugging, testing, deployment and making technical decisions around the platform’s architecture.

Qualifications

  • Strong experience in Full-Stack Development, with modern front-end and back-end technologies.
  • Proficiency in React/Next.js, JavaScript/TypeScript and Node.js.
  • Experience with databases, APIs, Git/GitHub and deployment platforms.
  • Experience integrating AI/LLM APIs is highly desirable.
  • Ability to work with and improve an existing prototype rather than simply building from scratch.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work independently in an early-stage environment.
  • Product-minded approach with the ability to translate ideas into practical technical solutions.
  • Experience with AI products, marketplaces, e-commerce or consumer-facing platforms is a plus.
  • Relevant degree or equivalent practical experience.

More importantly, we are looking for someone who is product-minded, technically independent and comfortable with ambiguity. You should be able to look at an imperfect existing prototype, understand what is working and what isn't, identify the underlying technical problems and make sensible decisions about what should be fixed, improved or rebuilt. We are also very open to engineers who use tools such as Cursor, Claude Code, GitHub Copilot and other AI development tools to work faster, provided they have the engineering ability to understand, review, debug and maintain the code they produce.

The initial engagement will be a paid technical development sprint, focused on auditing, stabilising and improving the existing RoomSmith product. If there is a strong fit on both sides, this can develop into a longer-term founding engineering role, with potential equity participation based on contribution and long-term involvement.

To apply, please send your CV/LinkedIn, GitHub or portfolio, examples of products you have actually shipped, your specific contribution to those products, current availability and expected compensation.
