Backend Engineer
Role: Software Engineer – Backend & Multi-Agent Systems (Founding Team)
Function: Software Engineering / Backend & AI Systems
Location: Bangalore
Type: Full-time
Industry: Technology / AI Agent
About Company
The company is building an AI-powered personal agent designed specifically for the Indian market. Its core product transforms noisy group conversations into structured, actionable workflows.
It identifies what needs attention, tracks responsibilities, remembers context, and takes follow-up actions on a user's behalf. The company is seed-stage, backed by repeat entrepreneurs and senior technologists with backgrounds at Google, Meta, and a successful fintech/crypto venture.
The founding team of 10 is based in Bangalore. This is a true 0→1 opportunity — the first engineers will define the architecture, technology stack, and engineering culture from day one.
Position Overview
As one of the company's first engineers, you will own the backend systems and agent orchestration layer that keep hundreds of AI agents running reliably at scale. There is no spec waiting for you: you will decide what to build, build it, ship it, and own what happens after. The role demands someone who can hold the entire system in their head while multiple streams of work move simultaneously — catching what's quietly gone wrong and ensuring pieces still fit when they land.
Role & Responsibilities
- Design and build the agent orchestration layer — how agents plan, act, remember context, and stay reliable when thousands of conversations run concurrently
- Build and operate the backend infrastructure behind the messenger — real-time messaging, sync, notifications, and everything that runs server-side
- Identify broken or missing parts of the system and fix or build them without waiting for a ticket or approval
- Hold the full system in context across multiple parallel workstreams — knowing what each agent is doing, catching silent failures, and ensuring components integrate cleanly
- Shape how the team builds — tooling, processes, and AI-assisted workflows that let a small team ship at the speed of a large one without quality slipping
- Own what you ship: monitor it in production, respond when it breaks, and improve it based on real user behaviour
Must Have Criteria
- 3–7 years of building and owning backend systems used by real people in production — with accountability through and after launch
- Hands-on experience building multi-agent or LLM-based systems that run reliably in production — not just a single-agent prototype
- Track record of taking ambiguous, undefined problems from first principles to shipped product without a spec
- Ability to make sound technical decisions under uncertainty — knowing when to move fast and when to slow down
- Strong debugging and systems-thinking skills — able to pick up an unfamiliar part of a codebase and get to the root of what's wrong
Nice to Have
- Has built and operated a backend at real scale — and lived with it in production under sustained load
- Has shipped a consumer product in messaging, mobile, or real-time domains
- Has worked across client, backend, and infrastructure without staying in a single lane
- Comfortable with LLM orchestration, prompt engineering, or agent memory and reliability at scale
What We Offer
- Founding-team equity and direct ownership of product, architecture, and company direction
- A direct line from your work to real users solving a genuinely hard problem
- Access to the latest AI tooling and the freedom to change how the team works when you find a better way
- Daily collaboration with founders who have built and scaled products at Google, Meta, and a successful fintech venture
