Program Manager
The D. E. Shaw group is a global investment and technology development firm with more than $115 billion in investment capital as of September 1, 2026, and offices in North America, Europe, and Asia. Since our founding in 1988, our firm has earned an international reputation for successful investing based on innovation, careful risk management, and the quality and depth of our staff. We have a significant presence in the world's capital markets, investing in a wide range of companies and financial instruments in both developed and developing economies.
Systems is a global team that designs, builds, and manages the firm’s technical infrastructure, including desktops, software applications, communications platforms, conferencing tools, network connections, and internal platforms that power developer productivity and user efficiency. We are seeking an experienced Lead Technical Program Manager to join the Systems PMO team in our Hyderabad office. In this role, you will drive large-scale, cross-functional programs across the Systems portfolio, with a focus on teams such as Information Security and Database Engineering. You will own the programs end to end, from shaping roadmaps and priorities through execution, rollout, adoption, and reporting. You will partner with engineering leads to engage with technology teams globally and facilitate alignment on priorities, dependencies, and risks.
WHAT YOU'LL DO DAY-TO-DAY:
The ideal candidate will demonstrate robust communication and stakeholder management skills, sound technical judgment grounded in hands-on experience with infrastructure, security, or data systems, and the strategic thinking and program mindset needed to keep complex programs moving in a dynamic environment. You will partner with engineering leads across Systems teams, and with engineering leads and program/product managers in adjacent teams, to shape, maintain, and communicate coherent roadmaps, translating technical priorities and business needs into well-sequenced program plans while aligning on shared priorities and negotiating dependencies and sequencing. You will own large-scale programs, and their cross-functional projects end to end, from scoping and milestone definition through execution tracking, rollout, and closure, driving decisions, resolving blockers, and managing change requests on long-horizon initiatives. You will manage risks early through early-warning indicators, reach explicit mitigate-or-accept decisions with engineering leads, and escalate with a recommended course of action. You will also own program communications and user engagement, including gathering requirements and feedback, running pilots and early-adopter groups, and preparing audience-tailored documentation, and maintaining governance by keeping program plans, decision records, test plans, and acceptance criteria current and compliant with the firm's security and organizational standards. Finally, you will define success metrics and leading and lagging indicators, build dashboards that give engineering teams and senior leadership a clear view of progress, risks, and outcomes, create reusable playbooks, templates, and reporting for other program managers, and identify ways to reduce operational overhead through automation, self-service, and generative AI.
WHO WE'RE LOOKING FOR:
The ideal candidate should hold–
Basic Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree or higher in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related technical discipline. An MBA or an equivalent postgraduate qualification in management or a technology discipline
- 5–8 years of total experience, with at least 3 years in a technical program, project, or product management role, including hands-on experience using program and project tracking tools
- Demonstrated ability to independently own and deliver large-scale, cross-functional technical programs in a globally distributed environment, across varied technical domains
- Contextual knowledge of enterprise IT infrastructure environments such as identity, security, database, and reporting platforms, with the technical fluency to engage credibly with engineering teams, ask the right questions, and make informed trade-offs
- A data analytics background with proficiency in business intelligence tools, and the ability to define how success is measured (metrics, baselines, targets) and to interrogate the underlying data to produce a clear narrative of what the numbers mean and what should happen next
- Robust analytical, organizational, and problem-solving abilities, with sound judgment under ambiguity and comfort with shifting priorities
- Strategic thinking and a program mindset: the ability to connect individual projects to a broader roadmap, prioritize the most critical problems first, and keep execution aligned to longer-term goals
- Robust stakeholder management: mapping stakeholders, managing expectations, and influencing outcomes across teams without direct reporting lines
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to produce crisp, executive-ready updates and to translate fluently in both directions between technical and non-technical audiences
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience working in a regulated or security-sensitive environment such as financial services
- Prior hands-on experience as a Systems, Security, or Database engineer, with a subsequent transition into a program or product management role
- Working knowledge of information security domains such as software security, identity and access management, vulnerability management, endpoint and network security, observability, security compliance, governance frameworks, and audit workflows
- Working knowledge of database and data platform concepts, including relational and NoSQL technologies, business intelligence platforms such as Power BI, high availability and disaster recovery, upgrades and migrations, and capacity and performance management
- Experience in a technology operations environment, with the ability to use operational data to identify gaps, scope projects, and build dashboards for leadership visibility
- PMP, PRINCE2, Scrum Master, or equivalent project management certification. Security management certifications (e.g., CISSP, CISM) are a plus
