Mobile App Lead (iOS or Android, with Flutter)
We are looking for a Mobile App Lead who is a hands-on expert in native iOS or native Android and has working experience in Flutter. You will own the technical direction and delivery of the
Moneycontrol mobile apps, used by millions of investors every day, while continuing to write,
review and ship production code.
This is a player-coach role. Deep native depth in one platform (iOS or Android) is non-negotiable.
Flutter is mandatory, and is used for module-based development and cross-platform integration
alongside the native apps.
Key Responsibilities
Technical Leadership and Ownership
- Own the end-to-end lifecycle of your platform's app: architecture, development, performance,
testing, release and post-release stability.
- Define and drive architecture decisions: MVVM/MVI/Clean Architecture, modularization,
dependency management, build-time optimization and a scalable design-system approach.
- Set the engineering bar through code reviews, coding standards, design reviews and technical
documentation.
- Break down epics into well-scoped tasks, estimate reliably, and deliver features on time with
high quality.
- Own release health: crash-free rate, ANR/hang rate, startup time, app size, battery and
memory, using data from Crashlytics, Firebase and native profilers.
- Lead root-cause analysis for complex production issues and drive lasting fixes.
- Ensure store compliance, security, privacy, accessibility and backward compatibility.
Hands-on Engineering (Native)
- Design and build high-performance, scalable features in Swift (iOS) or Kotlin (Android). Maintain
and modernize legacy code (Objective-C or Java) where required.
- Profile and optimize memory, threading, rendering, startup and network using Instruments
(iOS) or Android Profiler, Perfetto and Layout Inspector (Android).
- Build and maintain unit and UI tests, and champion automated testing in CI.
Flutter and Cross-Platform
- Develop and maintain Flutter (Dart) modules embedded in the native app, and guide the team
on add-to-app integration.
- Define Flutter–native communication using Pigeon and platform channels, and apply state
management patterns (Riverpod preferred).
- Keep Flutter modules at the performance, stability and UX standard of a premium native app.
- Partner with the counterpart iOS/Android lead to keep features and design consistent across
platforms.
People and Collaboration
- Mentor and grow engineers (SDE-1 to SDE-3): set expectations, give regular feedback and
support career growth.
- Support hiring: interviews, technical assessments and onboarding.
- Work closely with product, design, backend, QA and analytics teams; communicate trade-offs,
risks and timelines clearly to stakeholders.
- Champion Agile practices, CI/CD, release automation and engineering-excellence initiatives.
Required Skills and Experience
Native Expertise (iOS or Android): non-negotiable
- 8–10 years of professional mobile development experience, with at least 6 years of strong
hands-on native development in production apps.
- iOS track: expert-level Swift; deep knowledge of iOS SDKs, memory management (ARC),
concurrency (GCD, async/await), rendering pipeline and app lifecycle; SwiftUI/UIKit; Objective-C
for legacy code.
- Android track: expert-level Kotlin (Java for legacy code); deep knowledge of Android SDK,
lifecycle, memory management, Coroutines/Flow, background work (WorkManager, Services);
Jetpack Compose and XML Views; Gradle build variants.
- Proven experience architecting and evolving large-scale, consumer-facing apps with millions of
users.
- Strong command of architecture patterns (MVVM, MVI or Clean Architecture) and modular app
design.
- Solid experience with REST APIs, networking, data persistence, third-party SDKs, analytics, push
notifications and deep linking.
- Hands-on experience with unit tests, UI tests and TDD practices.
- Experience with CI/CD (Fastlane, Jenkins, GitHub Actions or Bitrise) and store release
management (App Store Connect or Google Play Console).
Flutter: mandatory (working to intermediate level)
- Practical experience building Flutter apps or modules in Dart, with production exposure.
- Hands-on experience with a state management framework (Riverpod strongly preferred; Bloc or
Provider acceptable).
- Experience integrating Flutter modules into an existing native app and using Pigeon or platform
channels.
- Understanding of Flutter performance in hybrid setups (frame rendering, startup cost, memory,
app size).
Leadership
- 2+ years of experience leading or mentoring a team of engineers, or acting as a technical lead
on a product or module.
- Ability to make and communicate architecture decisions and to drive them to completion across
teams.
- Excellent problem-solving, communication and stakeholder-management skills.
Good to Have
- Experience in fintech, media or other high-traffic, real-time apps (live prices, charts, streaming
data, notifications).
- Experience with multi-target or multi-module builds, and with build-time and app-size
optimization.
- Familiarity with Firebase (Crashlytics, Remote Config, Performance Monitoring, FCM).
- Working knowledge of the other native platform (Android for iOS leads, iOS for Android leads).
- Awareness of GenAI-powered features in mobile apps (chat or assistant experiences, streaming
responses).
- Contributions to open source, technical talks or published apps.
What We Are Not Looking For
- Flutter-first engineers with limited native depth in iOS or Android.
- Profiles who have managed only, with no recent hands-on coding.
- Candidates without strong ownership of production apps at scale.
Education
Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering or a related field preferred.
Equivalent practical experience is considered.
