LEGAL ENGINEER, PRODUCT AND IMPLEMENTATION

Finch

Gurugram

Full-time, On-site

ABOUT FINCH

  • Finch is building a legal operating system for lawyers.
  • We bring matters, documents, research, drafting, client communication and billing into one connected workspace, with technology built directly into the legal workflow.
  • We are currently working with an initial group of law firms in India and expanding our implementation work into the United Kingdom. We are also extending Finch beyond litigation into mergers and acquisitions, contracts and large-scale document review.
  • Our ambition is broader than any one practice area. We want to build legal infrastructure that can be useful across the profession, from chambers and law firms to in-house legal teams, corporate legal departments, government and regulatory offices, and ultimately the bench.
  • We are looking for a Legal Engineer to help us build and implement that system.THE ROLE
  • This is a role at the intersection of law, product and engineering.
  • You will work with lawyers to understand how legal work is actually done, translate that understanding into structured workflows and requirements, work with our engineers to build and refine those workflows, and test the result on real legal work.
  • You will also work directly with law firms during implementation. This will involve understanding their templates, precedents, matter structures and working methods, and helping make Finch work the way their lawyers work.
  • The role is not simply about configuring software. It is about understanding legal work deeply enough to help turn it into software.WHAT YOU WILL DO
  • Your work will include:
  • Studying legal workflows, documents, templates and precedents across different practice areas
  • Working with lawyers to understand how a matter moves from one stage to another
  • Translating legal workflows into product requirements, structured processes and implementation specifications
  • Working closely with engineers to build and improve features
  • Configuring, testing and troubleshooting workflows within Finch
  • Reviewing technology-assisted and artificial intelligence-assisted outputs for legal reasoning, factual accuracy, source grounding, citations, drafting structure and consistency
  • Working with client firms to understand their drafting styles, precedents, permissions and matter management practices
  • Helping implement Finch in law firms, including private cloud and on-premise environments where required
  • Conducting user testing with lawyers and identifying where a workflow works, where it fails and what needs to change
  • Documenting processes, implementation decisions and product requirements
  • Training lawyers and legal teams on new workflows
  • Feeding implementation experience directly back into our product development and roadmapWHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR

You should have a strong foundation in law and be comfortable with legal research, drafting and document review. You should also be interested in how software works.

You do not need to be a software engineer. However, you should be comfortable understanding software workflows, thinking in terms of structured processes and data, communicating clearly with engineers, and learning technical concepts quickly.

We are particularly interested in people who can:

  • Understand complicated legal processes and break them into clear steps
  • Spot inconsistencies and think carefully about edge cases
  • Work with large and complex document sets
  • Distinguish a genuinely useful legal workflow from something that simply looks impressive in a demonstration
  • Communicate comfortably with both lawyers and technical teams
  • Take ownership of a problem rather than waiting for a predefined task list
  • Learn unfamiliar areas of law and new software quickly
  • Experience in legal technology, legal operations, knowledge management, product implementation or professional services technology is useful, but not essential.
  • A law degree is expected. A technical education, programming experience, data experience or strong hands-on interest in technology is an advantage.WHO MIGHT BE A GOOD FIT
  • You might already be a lawyer who has become interested in technology.
  • You might have worked in legal technology, legal operations or knowledge management.
  • You might be the person in your firm who keeps asking why a process is still being done manually.
  • You might also come from a technical background and have enough legal understanding to know that legal work cannot simply be treated like an ordinary software workflow.
  • We are less interested in a particular job title than in your ability to understand both sides.WHY FINCH
  • Finch is being built around the matter itself.
  • A matter can move through intake, documents, evidence, chronology, research, drafting, client communication and billing without the lawyer repeatedly moving information between disconnected systems.
  • We are also building Finch around the way individual firms actually work. During implementation, our team works alongside lawyers to understand their practices and adapt the software to their templates, briefs, matter types, permissions and workflows.
  • You will therefore not be working on hypothetical legal technology.
  • You will be working on real legal work, with real lawyers, and helping shape the product as it is deployed.LOCATION AND WORKING ARRANGEMENT
  • Gurugram
  • Full-time, on-site
  • The role involves regular interaction with our legal and engineering teams as well as client firms. Being comfortable working in person is therefore important. You will be regularly visiting and working from the law firms where software is being deployed.HOW TO APPLY

Send us your CV along with a short note about your legal experience, your interest in technology, and why you are interested in working with Finch.
