Job Description Summary

Senior Staff Software Architect to shape the next generation of our customer-facing digital platform. This is a highly influential, hands-on architecture role for someone who enjoys solving complex engineering problems while also looking several years ahead. You will define the platform's architectural direction, drive adoption of modern cloud and AI technologies, raise engineering standards, and help transform how our teams build software using AI-assisted development practices, also play a key role in shaping how Generative AI and Agentic AI become part of our future product offerings.

Job Description

Role & Responsibilities

  • Define and drive the long-term technology and architecture roadmap for a large-scale customer-facing platform.
  • Shape architecture across multiple product pillars, creating reusable patterns and driving technology consistency where it adds value.
  • Partner closely with Product Managers, Business Analysts, regional stakeholders, UI architects and engineering teams to turn business strategy into scalable technology solutions.
  • Stay hands-on with architecture and critical technical challenges across React.js, Node.js, GraphQL, PostgreSQL, AWS and Azure.
  • Evaluate and introduce modern frameworks, cloud services, engineering tools and emerging technologies.
  • Drive adoption of AI-assisted software engineering and AI Development Lifecycle (AI-DLC) practices to improve developer productivity, quality, automation and speed of delivery.
  • Define and drive the platform's Generative AI and Agentic AI strategy, identifying opportunities to build intelligent capabilities into customer-facing products.
  • Establish architecture principles, engineering standards, reference architectures and technical guardrails.
  • Drive critical non-functional requirements including reliability, availability, scalability, performance, security and maintainability.
  • Define strategies for monitoring, logging, auditing, observability and production diagnostics.
  • Identify and address architectural bottlenecks, technical debt and opportunities for platform modernisation.
  • Influence and mentor Tech Leads, senior engineers and architects, building a strong engineering and architecture culture.

Technical Expertise

  • Deep hands-on experience with React.js, Node.js, JavaScript/TypeScript and modern web application architecture.
  • Strong experience designing distributed and cloud-native systems using AWS and Microsoft Azure.
  • Hands-on knowledge of AWS services including Lambda, RDS and S3.
  • Strong experience with GraphQL, PostgreSQL and Solr or similar search platforms.
  • Experience with Akamai or comparable edge, content delivery and security technologies.
  • Strong knowledge of APIs, integration patterns and scalable distributed architectures.
  • Experience designing for high availability, reliability, performance, scalability and security.
  • Strong understanding of observability, monitoring, logging, auditing and production diagnostics.
  • Experience with CI/CD, automated testing, DevSecOps and modern software engineering practices.
  • Practical knowledge of Generative AI, large language models, AI agents and Agentic AI architectures.
  • Passion for applying AI to both customer-facing products and the software engineering lifecycle.

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Technology or a related discipline, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 15+ years of software engineering experience, including significant architecture and technical leadership experience.
  • Proven experience designing or modernising large-scale customer-facing digital platforms.
  • Demonstrated ability to influence architectural and technology decisions across multiple engineering teams or product areas.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder-management skills, with the ability to explain complex technical decisions to both engineering and business audiences.
