Role Description
AI engineer is first and foremost a solution designer. This person translates ambiguous business problems into AI-native solutions and ships them through the stack — Azure, AI Foundry, Databricks. Hands-on with LLMs, agents, and RAG; comfortable in a regulated-enterprise context.
Key Responsibilities
- Solution design first: discuss business requirements with stakeholders across R&D, Manufacturing, Supply Chain, Commercial, Finance, and Procurement; translate them into AI-native solutions with measurable ROI
- Build POCs → MVPs → production: rapidly prototype with real or synthetic enterprise data; harden into scalable services
- Design and implement RAG pipelines, copilots, and agentic workflows on the stack
- Define guardrails and governance: model validation, evaluation frameworks, safety and compliance checks
- Documentation: architecture diagrams, design docs, READMEs, and code comments
- Collaborate with full-stack and frontend engineers on integration; with QA on AI-output quality testing; with product on roadmap
- Deploy and Maintain AI components on Azure; monitor performance, cost, and quality
- Work individually with minimal supervision as well as in team environments
Education, Experience and Skill-set Required
- Bachelor's or Master's in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Data Science, or related field
- 5+ years of software/data engineering experience; 2+ years building LLM applications in production
Technical Skills
- Python — strong proficiency; clean, production-grade code
- LLM application frameworks: LangChain, LangGraph, LlamaIndex, Semantic Kernel, or equivalent agent frameworks
- Experience with agentic AI systems in production (multi-agent, tool-use, autonomous workflows)
- RAG patterns: chunking, embeddings, retrieval evaluation
- Vector databases: Azure AI Search, pgvector, Pinecone, Weaviate
- Prompt engineering and structured output design
- Evaluation & observability: LangSmith, Langfuse, or in-house eval harnesses; offline/online quality measurement
- Multi-agent systems and orchestration (planner/executor, supervisor patterns)
- Azure platform: AI Foundry, Azure OpenAI, Databricks; APIs and microservices on Azure
- CI/CD for AI workloads, Git, and Agile delivery practices
- Working knowledge of API/web service security and data security practices
- Familiarity with web/UI frameworks (React, Streamlit) sufficient to integrate AI surfaces
Soft Skills
- Team Player — key element factor in our group; we vouch for each other
- Communication — excellent written and verbal English; able to translate AI capabilities into business value
- Time Management — strong organizational and time-management skills under ambiguity
- Responsibility — trustworthy person; owns the project and flawlessly delivers
Nice to Have
- Regulated-industry experience (pharma, healthcare, finance) and familiarity with compliance constraints
- Fine-tuning, distillation, or model adaptation experience
- Open-source contributions in the LLM/agents ecosystem
