About The Role
We are seeking a Senior Embedded Firmware Engineer to join our dynamic cable access engineering team. In this specialized role, you will work directly with our US-based systems architects, software, and hardware teams to design, develop, and maintain firmware for next-generation Full Duplex (FDX) Cable Amplifiers and smart RF nodes. Your expertise will contribute to the development of advanced RF control systems, dynamic signal management, and telemetry solutions that enhance the performance and reliability of broadband access networks. This role offers a unique opportunity to be at the forefront of embedded Linux development, working on sophisticated hardware platforms based on Broadcom broadband SoCs. Your work will directly impact the quality and efficiency of broadband services delivered worldwide, making a tangible difference in the connectivity experience of millions of users.
Qualifications
The ideal candidate will possess a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field, coupled with at least 5 years of hands-on experience in embedded firmware development. Demonstrated expertise in modern C and C++ programming is essential. A strong understanding of RF fundamentals, dynamic signal management, and Automatic Gain Control (AGC) control loops within amplified RF transmission paths is required. Experience working with Broadcom broadband SoCs and SDKs at the register and hardware abstraction levels is highly desirable. Deep knowledge of Embedded Linux driver development, Linux networking internals, and peripheral bus protocols such as I2C, SPI, and UART is necessary. Candidates should have practical experience implementing telemetry and serialization protocols including gNMI, Protobuf, JSON, and MQTT. Proven ability to collaborate effectively with distributed teams, particularly US-based engineering groups, and excellent technical communication skills are also important.
Responsibilities
As a Senior Embedded Firmware Engineer, your responsibilities will include developing low-level firmware using Broadcom SDKs tailored for broadband and cable access SoCs. You will initialize, configure, and monitor digital and analog RF processing hardware, ensuring optimal performance. Implementing embedded control loops for Automatic Gain Control (AGC), Automatic Level Control (ALC), tilt adjustment, and dynamic power management will be central to your role. You will control on-board peripherals, RF attenuators, equalizers, power amplifiers, and environmental sensors via I2C, SPI, and GPIO interfaces. Developing and maintaining custom Linux kernel drivers, character devices, and user-space daemons that interact directly with hardware registers and memory-mapped I/O will be part of your core tasks. You will architect modern out-of-band management and telemetry solutions utilizing gNMI, Protobuf, JSON, and MQTT to enable real-time health monitoring and RF performance metrics. Collaboration with US-based teams will involve participating in design reviews, code reviews, and architectural planning to ensure seamless integration and system robustness. Additionally, you will perform hardware bring-up on custom evaluation boards and production hardware, utilizing oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, and RF spectrum analyzers to validate hardware functionality and performance.
