Principal Engineer
Principal Engineer – Trading & Risk Technology
Reports to: VP of Engineering (skip-level: Founder)
Experience: 7+ years in software engineering, with at least 5 years in financial markets
About the Role
We're looking for a Principal Engineer to lead the design and development of our trading and risk management platforms. You'll shape the architecture of new products, improve and scale existing systems, and build high-performance, low-latency solutions. This is a hands-on leadership role: you'll guide a team of engineers while still writing a significant amount of code yourself.
Key Responsibilities
1. Architect, build, and improve trading and risk management systems, both new and existing.
2. Design and optimize low-latency, high-throughput applications for real-time market environments.
3. Lead, mentor, and grow a team of engineers, setting technical standards and best practices.
4. Write production code, perform code reviews, and own critical components.
5. Work closely with the VP and Founder on technical strategy, product roadmap, and engineering priorities.
6. Partner with PMs and clients to turn requirements into robust solutions.
7. Ensure system reliability, performance, and scalability through strong engineering practices.
Requirements
1. Minimum 5 years of experience building systems in financial markets (trading, risk, OMS/EMS, or market data).
2. Strong expertise in C# and C++.
3. Proven experience building low-latency, performance-critical systems.
4. Solid knowledge of MongoDB and SQL databases.
5. Experience leading engineering teams while staying hands-on.
6. Deep understanding of trading workflows, risk management concepts, and market microstructure.
7. Strong system design, problem-solving, and communication skills.
Nice to Have
1. Experience with multithreading, memory optimization, and network programming.
2. Exposure to FIX protocol, exchange connectivity, and market data feeds.
3. Experience in a startup or fast-paced, founder-led environment.
Why Join Us
1. Work directly with leadership and have real influence on technical direction.
2. Build mission-critical products from the ground up.
3. Lead a talented team in a high-impact, fast-moving environment.
