As a Senior Software Engineer II at Optum Technology in Hyderabad, India, you will play a pivotal role across two high-impact initiatives that empower employees and enhance corporate operations. You will focus on designing and optimizing robust APIs, backend services, and relational database architectures while supporting initiatives such as Eva, an enterprise virtual agent, and custom SharePoint solutions. Working across scalable backend systems, database access layer optimization, and intelligent employee tools, you will design, develop, and deploy robust software systems that streamline enterprise workflows and elevate digital employee experience.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and optimize robust RESTful APIs, microservices, and relational database solutions to support enterprise applications and workflows
  • Contribute to core software engineering and integration efforts for Eva, our employee virtual agent, as well as custom SharePoint solutions
  • Design, develop, and deploy AI-powered solutions to address complex business challenges with an emphasis on responsible use of AI
  • Leverage enterprise-approved AI tools to streamline workflows, automate administrative tasks, and drive continuous product improvement
  • Collaborate with cross-functional product managers, system architects, and UI/UX design teams to translate complex business needs into clean, maintainable, and modular software systems
  • Evaluate emerging trends in AI technologies, backend frameworks, and database optimization to inform engineering decisions and strategic innovation
  • Perform rigorous code reviews, ensure robust service integration, and enforce high standards for code quality, data security, and performance optimization
  • Comply with all applicable Company policies, procedures, and business directives, changes including those relating to work location, team assignments, work schedules, and flexible work arrangements

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or 5+ years of software engineering / application development experience
  • 5+ years of experience designing, integrating, and consuming RESTful APIs and web services
  • 5+ years of experience with relational database design, data access strategies, and query optimization
  • 2+ years of experience with version control systems (Git), CI/CD pipelines, and automated testing frameworks
  • Experience designing, developing, and optimizing APIs using Python and FastAPI

Preferred Qualifications

  • Hands-on software development experience with web technologies (HTML, CSS, JavaScript)
  • Experience developing, customizing, and deploying custom SharePoint solutions
  • Experience working in an Agile/Scrum development environment
  • Solid proficiency in modern web development with React, including UI/UX design concepts, streaming API responses, performance optimization techniques, and component packaging
  • Understanding of AI application concepts, including effective prompting, token optimization, Agent-to-Agent (A2A) workflows, Agent-to-UI (A2UI) integration, and building AI agents
