Software Development Engineer

As a Senior SAP ABAP & Fiori Developer, you will design, develop, enhance, and optimize SAP applications and reporting solutions across SAP S/4HANA.

You will work across the application stack, developing SAP Fiori and SAPUI5 user experiences as well as backend solutions using ABAP, CDS Views, ABAP Managed Database Procedures (AMDP), OData services, and modern SAP development frameworks.

The successful candidate will bring strong hands-on SAP engineering experience, an understanding of S/4HANA development principles, and the ability to troubleshoot complex functional and technical problems. You will collaborate with Product Managers, Business Analysts, and engineers in an agile product environment to translate business requirements into maintainable technical solutions.

SAP Fiori and User Experience Development

• Extend, configure, and customize standard SAP Fiori applications and Fiori Elements, including List Reports, Analytical List Pages, and Overview Pages.
• Develop custom SAP Fiori/SAPUI5 applications using MVC architecture, JavaScript, XML, HTML5, and CSS.
• Configure and support SAP Fiori Launchpad functionality, including catalogs, roles, spaces, and pages.
• Design, develop, and optimize OData v2 and v4 services using SAP Gateway, CDS-based services, and the ABAP RESTful Application Programming Model (RAP).
• Apply SAP Fiori design principles to deliver intuitive and consistent user experiences.

Advanced ABAP and Reporting Development

• Design and develop high-performance analytical and operational solutions using ABAP on SAP HANA, CDS Views, and AMDP.
• Develop scalable backend solutions using modern ABAP syntax and object-oriented ABAP.
• Build CDS Views using appropriate annotations, associations, access controls, and reusable data models.
• Apply HANA code-pushdown techniques to improve application and reporting performance.
• Maintain and modernize existing ABAP applications and reports, including ALV, classical, and interactive reports, where required.
• Perform performance analysis and optimization using tools such as SQL Trace (ST05), ABAP Runtime Analysis (SAT), and ABAP Test Cockpit (ATC).
• Troubleshoot complex application, integration, and data-performance issues.
• Apply clean-core principles and SAP S/4HANA development standards when designing extensions and custom solutions.

Agile Collaboration and Engineering Quality

• Work collaboratively with Product Managers, Business Analysts, and engineering teams to clarify requirements and refine user stories.
• Participate in estimation, sprint planning, technical design discussions, and solution reviews.
• Apply automated testing and Test-Driven Development (TDD) practices where appropriate.
• Participate in peer code reviews, pair programming, and knowledge-sharing activities.
• Support continuous integration and continuous delivery practices for SAP development.
• Create maintainable technical documentation and contribute to engineering standards.
• Identify opportunities to reduce technical debt and improve application performance, maintainability, and reliability.

Required Qualifications And Experience

• 6+ years of hands-on SAP development experience with strong expertise in ABAP and object-oriented ABAP.
• Hands-on experience developing solutions on SAP S/4HANA.
• Strong experience with SAP Fiori and SAPUI5 application development.
• Demonstrated experience developing CDS Views and HANA-optimized ABAP solutions.
• Experience with ABAP Managed Database Procedures (AMDP), SQLScript, or Table Functions.
• Hands-on experience developing and consuming OData services.
• Experience with SAP Gateway and modern SAP application development approaches such as RAP.
• Experience troubleshooting and optimizing ABAP, SQL, and CDS performance.
• Experience with SAP development environments such as Eclipse with ABAP Development Tools (ADT) and SAP Business Application Studio (BAS).
• Understanding of SAP transport and software lifecycle management practices.
