Job Description: Manager – Operations Transformation (Metals & Mining)

About the Role

We help metal and process-industry clients transform plant operations, using lean, advanced analytics and machine learning to unlock measurable value. As Manager, you will lead on-site transformation engagements at client plants (steel, aluminium, copper, cement and similar), from diagnostic through implementation to value realisation. You will manage a small team, own client relationships at plant level, and make sure ML-driven recommendations turn into real, sustained improvements on the shop floor.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead end-to-end delivery of plant transformation programmes: diagnostic, opportunity sizing, solution design, implementation and handover.
• Translate plant problems (yield, throughput, energy, quality, downtime, cost per tonne) into clear analytical and operational improvement levers.
• Work with data science teams to deploy and use ML models (e.g. process optimisation, predictive maintenance, quality prediction) and ensure plant teams adopt them.
• Own value realisation: define baselines and KPIs, track benefits, and validate savings with client finance and operations teams.
• Manage and mentor a team of analysts, engineers and consultants on site; review work quality and keep delivery on schedule.
• Engage plant heads, department heads and shop-floor teams; drive change management and sustain behaviour change.
• Prepare and present progress updates, steering committee decks and value tracking to senior client stakeholders.
• Support business development: scoping new engagements, proposals and client conversations.
• Contribute to internal knowledge building, playbooks and best practices across metals and mining.

Qualifications and Experience

Must have

• B.E./B.Tech in Mechanical, Metallurgical or Electrical Engineering.
• 7–10 years of total experience in plant operations, process improvement, operations consulting or industrial transformation.
• Working knowledge of plant operations in one or more of steel, aluminium, copper, cement or related process industries.
• Hands-on experience leading improvement or transformation projects at plant level, with demonstrated impact.
• Comfort working with operational data and analytics; ability to engage with data science teams and interpret model outputs.
• Strong stakeholder management, communication and problem-solving skills.
• Willingness to be at client plant locations Monday to Friday.

Good to have

• MBA from a reputed institute.
• Prior consulting experience (strategy or operations).
• Exposure to ML/AI applications in industrial settings, Lean/Six Sigma certification, or experience with value-tracking frameworks.
• Experience across mining and downstream metal value chains.
