FREELANCE PRODUCT DEVELOPMENT & PRODUCTION PROJECT MANAGER – INDIA

SAKSHAM is looking for a Freelance Product Development & Production Project Manager based in Delhi, India, to support its activities with international fashion brands and Indian manufacturers.

We are looking for a hands-on, organised and technically skilled professional with solid experience in garment manufacturing, product development and quality control.

Position details

Location: Delhi, India, with travel across India

Availability: Approximately 2 days per week to start

Initial assignment: 3 months, with potential for further collaboration

Status: Freelance / Independent Consultant

Key responsibilities

1. Product Development & Production Management

• Coordinate product development and production with manufacturers.
• Follow up on samples, technical comments, corrections and approvals.
• Ensure brands' technical instructions are correctly communicated and implemented.
• Monitor production timelines, key milestones and deliveries.
• Identify and assess potential manufacturing partners.2. Technical Quality Control, Fabrics & Compliance
• Check fabrics and trims against technical specifications and quality requirements.
• Verify fabric quality, colours, composition and relevant test reports.
• Check garment measurements against approved size specifications.
• Inspect construction, stitching, finishing and workmanship.
• Check prints, embroidery and other embellishments for quality and execution.
• Identify defects, communicate corrective actions and follow up until issues are resolved.
• Follow up on required certifications, audits and compliance documentation.3. Costing, Pricing & Supplier Management
• Review and evaluate supplier quotations and garment costing breakdowns.
• Assess fabric, trims, labour and manufacturing costs.
• Benchmark prices against target costs and market standards.
• Identify cost optimisation opportunities without compromising quality.
• Negotiate prices, MOQs and commercial terms with manufacturers.
• Build and maintain strong relationships with suppliers.

The ideal profile

• Previous experience in garment manufacturing, product development, merchandising, production management or quality control.
• Strong technical knowledge and ability to assess garment fit, construction and finishing, as well as quality of fabrics, trims, prints and embroidery.
• Knowledge of garment quality standards, testing and compliance requirements.
• Good understanding of garment costing, price evaluation and supplier negotiations.
• Excellent organisational and communication skills.
• Good command of Excel is essential.
• Based in Delhi or surrounding areas.
• Willingness to travel across India, including Mumbai, Kolkata, Bangalore and other manufacturing hubs.

Experience working with European fashion brands is a strong plus.
