AI Engineer

India

About usWe are an early-stage startup in Switzerland building AI agents for operational automation in the reinsurance industry.

Our founding team comes from big tech and leading global enterprises, where we built data platforms and infrastructure for some of the world's most demanding organisations. We are working on important, unsolved problems, and we are backed by tier 1 venture capital investors.

The role: Founding EngineerYou will own large parts of our platform end to end, from the first design sketch to production and on-call. There is no team to hand things off to yet, and that is the point.

What you will work on:

  • Designing and building the agent runtime: long-running, durable workflows on AWS that can pause, ask a human for a decision, and resume safely.
  • Modelling the data behind operations in relational and document databases.
  • Building backend services and internal tools in TypeScript, and data and ML-adjacent tooling in Python.
  • Working directly with the founders and early customers to turn messy operational processes into reliable, auditable automation.
  • Shaping our engineering culture, tooling and hiring as the team grows. What we're looking forMust have:
  • Strong, hands-on AWS experience in production: IAM, Lambda, ECS or Fargate, S3, SQS/SNS, EventBridge, and infrastructure as code (CDK, Terraform or SAM).
  • Solid database skills: schema design, query tuning and migrations in PostgreSQL, plus working knowledge of DynamoDB or another NoSQL store.
  • Fluency in TypeScript (Node.js) for backend services.
  • Fluency in Python for data processing, scripting and LLM tooling.
  • Proficiency with Claude and agentic coding tools such as Claude Code or Codex. You use them daily, you know when to trust them and when not to, and you review and own every line they produce. You follow Claude best practices, including CLAUDE.md project files, skills and custom slash commands, and you document them so the team can reuse them.Nice to have:
  • Experience building LLM-powered agents: tool use, structured outputs, evals, guardrails, and human-in-the-loop design.
  • Background in insurance, reinsurance, financial services or another regulated domain.
  • Experience as an early engineer at a startup.Mindset and culture fitSkills get you an interview. Mindset decides whether this is the right place for you. We are looking for someone who:
  • Takes high ownership. You treat the product, the codebase and the customer outcome as yours, and you do not wait to be told what to fix.
  • Has a startup mindset. You are comfortable with ambiguity, you ship small and often, and you would rather have something working on Friday than something perfect next quarter.
  • Is pragmatic about quality. You know where reliability matters (money, contracts, audit trails) and where speed matters more.
  • Communicates clearly and directly, in writing and in person, including when you disagree.
  • Is curious about the domain. Reinsurance is complex and unglamorous on the surface; we want someone who finds that interesting.
  • Uses AI tools to multiply their output, not to replace their judgement.Culture-fit questions. Please answer these briefly (a few sentences each) in your application:
  • Tell us about something you built or fixed that nobody asked you to. Why did you do it, and what happened?
  • Describe a time you had to make an important technical decision with incomplete information. How did you decide, and would you decide the same way today?
  • What does "ownership" mean to you in practice? Give one concrete example from your work.
  • How do you use Claude, Codex or similar tools in your daily workflow? Where have they saved you the most time, and where have they misled you?
  • Why do you want to join a very early-stage startup now, rather than a larger, more established company?
  • What kind of team environment brings out your best work, and what kind drains you?Why joinThis is a rare chance to be one of the first engineers at a company attacking a large, under-served market with a team that has done it before.
  • Real ownership and impact. Your decisions will shape the architecture, the product and the culture for years.
  • A very rewarding opportunity as the company grows: meaningful founding-team equity, with your role, responsibility and compensation growing with the company.
  • Learn directly from founders with SF - ex- Big Tech / tradfi background, working on hard problems at the intersection of AI agents, distributed systems and financial operations.
  • Modern tooling from day one, with full access to Claude and other agentic tools.
  • Remote-friendly, working closely with our founding team in Switzerland.Compensation: you start with a one-month paid internship at INR 30,000. On successful completion, you move into a full-time role starting at INR 1,00,000 per month, plus equity.

Incentives and benefits:

  • Lunch budget: a daily meal allowance on working days.
  • Overtime pay: extra hours during launches and critical delivery periods are compensated.
  • Performance-linked incentives: bonuses tied to your individual impact and company milestones.
  • Future relocation support to Switzerland: as the company grows, high performers will be offered support to relocate to our Swiss team, including visa and moving assistance.

How to applySend us your CV or LinkedIn, a link to your GitHub or anything you have built, and your answers to the culture-fit questions above.

Our process:

  • Intro call with the founder (30 min): your background, our vision, mutual fit.
  • Take-home assessment (about 4 to 6 hours, take up to a week): build a pausable, resumable AWS agent runner pipeline with human-in-the-loop approval. You are expected and encouraged to use Claude Code, Codex or similar tools. We will send you the brief and starter repository. You choose the architecture and AWS services, and you document the Claude skills and slash commands you created along the way.
  • Technical deep dive with the CTO (60 to 90 min): walk us through your design decisions, trade-offs, and how you worked with your AI tools.
  • Culture and team conversation with both founders (45 min).
  • Offer: a one-month paid internship (INR 20,000 - 30,000), followed by a full-time role (from INR 50,000 - 1,00,000 per month).
  • We aim to complete the whole process within two weeks and give you feedback at every stage.
