Senior Golang Backend Developer (Cloud Edge Networking)

About the Role

We are looking for an experienced Senior Golang Backend Developer to join the Cloud Edge engineering team at Extreme Networks. The engineer will be responsible for designing and developing scalable backend services for enterprise networking and cloud-managed network devices. The ideal candidate should have strong expertise in Golang, networking protocols, Linux systems, SNMP, and distributed backend architectures.

This role requires an engineer who can independently own features, collaborate with global engineering teams, and build highly scalable cloud networking services.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain high-performance backend applications using Golang.
• Build scalable microservices and REST/gRPC APIs for cloud networking platforms.
• Develop backend services for network device management, monitoring, and automation.
• Work with SNMP, MIBs, CLI, and network device integrations.
• Implement concurrent processing using Go routines, channels, worker pools, and context management.
• Build and optimize distributed backend systems handling large-scale network events and telemetry.
• Design solutions for log retention, disk monitoring, appliance configuration, RBAC, and user provisioning.
• Integrate backend services with Kubernetes, Docker, and cloud-native infrastructure.
• Participate in architecture discussions, code reviews, testing, debugging, and production support.
• Collaborate with globally distributed Agile teams using Jira and Git.

Mandatory Skills

• 8+ years of backend software development experience.
• 4+ years of hands-on Golang development.
• Strong understanding of Go concurrency (goroutines, channels, worker pools, context package).
• Experience building REST APIs and gRPC services.
• Strong knowledge of Microservices Architecture and Distributed Systems.
• Experience working on Linux-based backend services.
• Strong Git, GitHub/Gerrit, code review, and CI/CD practices.

Networking Skills (Must Have)

• Strong networking fundamentals (L2/L3).
• Experience with SNMP, MIBs, Network Management Systems (NMS).
• Hands-on exposure to routing and switching concepts.
• Experience with network device configuration and CLI development.
• Understanding of protocols such as:
• SNMP
• OSPF
• BGP
• VLAN
• STP
• DHCP
• DNS
• RADIUS
• IPv4 / IPv6

Cloud & DevOps Skills

• Docker
• Kubernetes
• AWS / Azure / GCP (any one)
• Jenkins / GitHub Actions / CI-CD
• Helm / Terraform (Good to Have)

Preferred Experience

• Enterprise networking products.
• Network Operating Systems (NOS).
• Cloud-managed networking platforms.
• Network telemetry, streaming telemetry, or OpenConfig/gNMI.
• Event-driven systems using Kafka or RabbitMQ.
• Monitoring platforms handling thousands of network devices.
