Position Summary:

Marriott has an exciting opportunity for a Software Engineer on the Enterprise Commerce Search team. This role contributes to building and enhancing enterprise search capabilities that help digital channels retrieve fast, relevant, and reliable results across commerce experiences.

We are looking for a Software Engineer with hands-on experience in the search domain and a strong foundation in backend microservices development. The role focuses on developing scalable Java- and Python-based services using Spring WebFlux and FastAPI, along with search APIs, indexing and query integrations, and production-ready capabilities that connect enterprise applications with search platforms.

You will work closely with senior engineers, architects, product partners, QA, SRE, and dependent commerce teams to deliver secure, observable, and high-quality search solutions. The ideal candidate is comfortable working with search concepts, distributed systems, APIs, cloud-native technologies, and Agile engineering practices.

Job Responsibilities:

Technical Contributions & Collaboration:

  • Contribute to the design, development, testing, and maintenance of microservices for the Enterprise Commerce Search platform.
  • Develop REST APIs and event-driven integrations using Java with Spring WebFlux and Python with FastAPI.
  • Implement search-domain capabilities including query processing, indexing workflows, filters, facets, sorting, pagination, type-ahead, and relevance-related enhancements.
  • Integrate microservices with enterprise search engines and upstream or downstream commerce applications.
  • Participate in code reviews, technical discussions, troubleshooting, and engineering best practices.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams including Product Catalog, digital channels, QA, SRE, and platform engineering.

Delivering Technology:

  • Translate business and functional requirements into reliable microservices and search solutions.
  • Build and enhance search APIs, indexing pipelines, data transformations, and platform integrations.
  • Write unit and integration tests and support functional, performance, and regression testing.
  • Participate in CI/CD deployments across lower and production environments.
  • Monitor services, analyze logs and distributed traces, and support timely resolution of defects and production issues.
  • Identify technical risks, dependencies, and operational concerns and communicate them proactively.

IT Governance:

  • Follow enterprise architecture, development, release, and operational governance standards.
  • Apply secure coding practices and comply with API security, privacy, and data-protection requirements.
  • Maintain technical documentation such as API specifications, design notes, deployment procedures, and runbooks.

Skills and Experience:

Backend & Microservices:

  • 2–4 years of software development experience, with hands-on backend engineering responsibilities.
  • Good proficiency in Java and Python, with hands-on experience using Spring WebFlux and FastAPI to build REST APIs and microservices.
  • Experience developing, integrating, testing, and troubleshooting distributed services.
  • Working knowledge of reactive and asynchronous programming, event-driven architecture, and messaging platforms such as Kafka.
  • Understanding of API design, error handling, resiliency, caching, and service-to-service communication.

Search Engineering:

  • Hands-on experience building and supporting microservices within a search-domain workstream or search-driven application ecosystem.
  • Experience developing Java- or Python-based service layers that integrate with search platforms such as Amazon OpenSearch, Elasticsearch, Apache Solr, or Lucidworks Fusion.
  • Ability to design and implement microservice APIs that translate business requests into search queries, filters, facets, sorting, and pagination while maintaining stable consumer contracts.
  • Experience building microservices for search query orchestration, indexing workflows, data transformation, and integration with upstream and downstream enterprise systems.
  • Experience troubleshooting distributed search integrations using logs, metrics, and traces, including timeout handling, resiliency, error mapping, and performance analysis.

Cloud & DevOps:

  • Working experience with AWS services and cloud-native application development.
  • Experience with CI/CD, Git, Docker, and Kubernetes.
  • Familiarity with production monitoring and observability tools such as Dynatrace, including logs, metrics, and distributed traces.

Commerce Engineering:

  • Experience working with eCommerce, digital commerce, content discovery, or customer-facing search platforms is preferred.

Security & Quality:

  • Knowledge of API security concepts such as OAuth 2.0, JWT, authentication, and authorization.
  • Familiarity with OWASP guidance and secure coding standards.
  • Experience with unit testing and mocking frameworks such as JUnit and Mockito, along with integration testing.
  • Experience with API documentation and code-quality tools such as Swagger/OpenAPI and SonarQube.
