Senior Web Developer with Deep WordPress Experience
WordPress Modernization and AI-Assisted Development
About The Role
SPsoft is looking for a strong hands-on web developer with deep WordPress experience to rebuild our corporate website so that it can be maintained, managed, and expanded through AI coding agents.
Routine content updates, new pages, SEO changes, component updates, and future website extensions should be possible through this AI-driven workflow without relying on the WordPress admin panel or repetitive manual coding. You will design both the website and the technical operating system around it: architecture, repository structure, project context, agent instructions, tools, validation, approval controls, deployment, and rollback.
What you will do
- Audit the existing WordPress website, including its theme, custom code, plugins, database structure, content model, media, forms, analytics, integrations, hosting, and SEO setup.
- Define the AI-first operating model for the website: which content, design, SEO, configuration, and functional changes users should be able to request through an AI interface and how those requests move from instruction to production.
- Recommend and implement the target architecture, content model, and modern web stack based on safe AI operation, performance, SEO, maintainability, security, and future expansion.
- Rebuild the website as a modular, predictable codebase with reusable components, structured content, explicit schemas, and clear separation between content, presentation, configuration, and integrations.
- Create the repository context required by AI coding agents, including architecture documentation, coding rules, content rules, task instructions, command references, examples, and boundaries for allowed changes.
- Configure workflows for AI agents to update content, create pages, reuse approved components, change navigation and metadata, manage media, and extend website functionality.
- Provide deterministic commands and tools that AI agents can use to build, test, validate, preview, and prepare changes for deployment.
- Implement guardrails and automated checks for code quality, types, builds, links, SEO, accessibility, responsiveness, performance, and visual regressions.
- Design a safe preview, review, approval, deployment, backup, and rollback process so that AI-generated changes cannot reach production without the required validation and human approval.
- Migrate pages, blog posts, media, metadata, forms, analytics, and required third-party integrations from WordPress.
- Preserve existing URLs where practical, implement a complete 301 redirect plan, and protect canonical tags, sitemap, robots.txt, schema markup, internal linking, and indexing controls.
- Test the AI workflow with representative tasks such as publishing content, creating a landing page, updating SEO metadata, changing a component, and adding an integration; then improve the system where the agent fails or produces inconsistent results.
- Document the operating model and train the SPsoft team to request, review, approve, deploy, and roll back website changes through the AI-driven workflow.
- Own the production launch, resolve migration issues, and stabilize both the website and the AI-based maintenance workflow after release.
What we are looking for
- 5+ years of professional web development experience, including deep hands-on work with WordPress architecture, PHP, MySQL, themes, plugins, custom code, content models, and complex migrations.
- Strong experience analyzing existing WordPress implementations and distinguishing essential functionality from plugin or theme dependencies that should not be carried into the new solution.
- Production experience with JavaScript or TypeScript, HTML, CSS, and a modern framework such as Next.js, Astro, or a comparable alternative.
- Demonstrated hands-on experience with agentic coding tools such as Claude Code, Codex, or equivalent in real repositories, beyond code completion or occasional prompt-based assistance.
- Experience structuring a codebase so an AI agent can understand its architecture, locate the right files, follow project rules, reuse approved patterns, run tools, validate its own work, and recover from errors.
- Experience creating repository-level instructions, technical context, task workflows, reusable commands, tests, and guardrails for AI coding agents.
- Strong understanding of structured content, component systems, schemas, APIs, and other patterns that make natural-language website changes predictable and maintainable.
- Ability to design safe human-in-the-loop workflows with permissions, previews, approval gates, auditability, secrets protection, deployment controls, backups, and rollback.
- Strong experience with Git, code review, automated testing, CI/CD, hosting, DNS, SSL, environment configuration, and production deployment.
- Proven experience migrating a live website while protecting URLs, metadata, organic visibility, analytics, and business-critical functionality.
- Strong understanding of technical SEO, performance optimization, responsive implementation, accessibility, and production web standards.
- Ability to translate non-technical requests into repeatable AI workflows and to identify where human review or manual engineering remains necessary.
- Strong attention to detail and clear ownership of AI-generated output, technical quality, security, maintainability, and production stability.
Nice to have
- Experience building natural-language or AI-driven interfaces for non-technical users to manage content or software changes.
- Experience connecting AI coding agents to repository tools, content sources, preview environments, deployment systems, or other controlled integrations.
- Experience implementing structured content through a headless CMS, repository-based content, or API-driven content platform.
- Experience with visual regression testing, screenshot validation, automated browser testing, and AI-assisted QA.
- Experience optimizing Core Web Vitals and diagnosing technical SEO issues after a migration.
- Experience with APIs, analytics platforms, CRM integrations, marketing forms, and consent-management tools.
What success looks like
- The SPsoft team can use an AI interface to perform routine content updates, create pages, update SEO data, and request supported website extensions without working in the WordPress admin panel.
- For every supported request, the AI agent can identify the correct files, follow established patterns, run the required checks, generate a preview, and prepare a controlled change for approval.
- The website can be maintained and expanded without depending on undocumented knowledge held by the original developer.
- The repository contains the architecture context, instructions, examples, tools, tests, and guardrails required for reliable work by both AI agents and human developers.
- AI-generated changes remain reviewable and reversible through documented preview, approval, deployment, backup, monitoring, and rollback procedures.
- The WordPress migration protects SEO-critical content, URLs, metadata, analytics, integrations, and production stability.
