Hyderabad, Telangana, India

Role: Research Associate

Location: Hyderabad

No of Openings:1

Faculty Name: Anusuya Banerjee

Academic Area: Organizational Behaviour

Start Date: Asap

Duration: 2 years, full-time (full-term commitment expected)

Research Summary of the Faculty:

Professor: Anusuya Banerjee

I am a tenure-track research faculty member at ISB who conducts research on how fluctuations in emotions and psychobiology influence individual and collective outcomes in organizations, and how they can be better managed. Currently, I am focused on pushing a large and diverse portfolio of research projects over the next couple of years. Many of these projects require custom-built digital research tools. The selected RA will be an essential part of building them, so that I can successfully conduct studies. (Note: Building technical solutions alone is not sufficient for coauthorship. Coauthorship becomes possible only if and when the RA engages fully in multiple core aspects of the research process.)

About ISB

The Indian School of Business (ISB) evolved from the need for a world-class business school in Asia. The founders, some of the best minds from the corporate and academic worlds, anticipated the leadership needs of the emerging Asian economies. The ISB is committed to creating such leaders through its innovative programs, outstanding faculty, and thought leadership. The Indian School of Business (ISB) provides a robust environment that generates high-quality research that is both contemporary and rigorous.

Roles & Responsibilities:

You will provide assistance to the faculty by supporting ongoing research. Responsibilities are tiered, and compensation will be adjusted based on the scope of work:

  • Research tool development (required). Build, from detailed written specifications, the digital tools used in studies. Examples include multi-wave online surveys that link participants by ID code and display their earlier responses in later surveys. Others include surveys whose questions adapt to participants’ earlier answers, and a live chat platform in which a bot adapts its replies to what a participant says. A further example is a reusable, systematic workflow for literature searches and screening. The work includes testing, documentation, and secure handling of participant data. No social science background is needed. Study design and content are provided.
  • Data cleaning and/or analysis (preferred but far lower priority than #1). Candidates adept at working with data and at conducting the types of statistical analyses I employ can engage in data cleaning and/or support analysis. Examples include multiple regression, mixed effects models, hierarchical linear modelling, and structural equation modelling. Data types and requirements vary by project.
  • Data collection and other research tasks (if desired). For students who eventually want to pursue a PhD in organizational behaviour or related social science subjects, additional responsibilities can be included. These do not require advanced technical expertise. Examples include collecting data from online panels, lab participants, archival sources, and field sources, and conducting literature reviews. Data collection may involve preparing measures and protocols, organizing logistics, and running studies.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • Strong educational background from a top institution in computer science, software engineering, information systems, data science, statistics, or a related field (or equivalent demonstrated experience).
  • Strong coding proficiency in at least one language (e.g., Python, JavaScript, R), and the openness and aptitude to learning others.
  • Makes intelligent and transparent use of AI resources (e.g., to produce code you are equipped to check/correct or to check what you have produced).
  • Specialized experience in one or more of the following is a plus but not required: survey platforms; web development; LLM/chatbot APIs; scholarly database APIs.
  • Strong logical thinker.
  • Strong critical thinker.
  • Ability to quickly and independently learn new platforms, interfaces, and methods, and to execute from guidance with minimal direction.
  • Strong English proficiency (speaking is sufficient for this role).

Our Commitment towards you:

ISB is a research-focused business school. It offers a variety of opportunities to understand the current management phenomena in depth, through research brown-bag seminars, workshops, and PhD-level courses. It provides several options to hone a person’s analytical skills. This position is especially well suited to candidates who want to prepare for a PhD in a business school, or to pivot into the social sciences while leveraging a technical background. Candidates with this interest will have additional opportunities beyond programming (see item 3 above). Regardless of long-term plans, a full 2-year commitment is expected.

Along with the competitive salary and plethora of employee benefits, ISB hosts a world-class Learning Resource Centre in the entire Asia, Comprehensive Health and Personal Accident Cover for you and your family members. ISB believes in creating a truly inclusive culture that values diversity, equity, and inclusion for everyone through our ideas and collaborations.
