Qualification: Degree / Diploma in Jewellery Design, Fashion Design or Product Development.

1. JOB PURPOSE

To lead and manage the complete product development process of imitation jewellery, including conceptualisation, designing, sampling, material selection, product costing and coordination with manufacturing teams. The position is responsible for developing innovative, market-oriented and commercially viable jewellery products while ensuring cost efficiency, product quality and timely execution.

2. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

A. Product Development

• Lead the development of new imitation jewellery collections based on current fashion trends, market research and customer requirements.
• Identify new product opportunities, designs, materials, finishes and manufacturing techniques.
• Develop product concepts from initial ideas to final approved samples.
• Coordinate with sampling and production teams for prototype development and product modifications.
• Ensure all new products are commercially viable and suitable for bulk manufacturing.
• Maintain a systematic database of new products, approved samples and product specifications.B. Jewellery Designing
• Lead the design and development of necklaces, earrings, bangles, bracelets, rings, pendants and jewellery sets.
• Prepare creative designs, sketches, technical drawings and detailed product specifications.
• Ensure designs are aligned with brand identity, customer expectations and prevailing market trends.
• Guide designers and sampling personnel in converting concepts into finished products.
• Review and approve design concepts and samples before submission to management or customers.
• Ensure originality and confidentiality of designs and product developments.

C. Product Costing & Pricing

• Prepare detailed product-wise costing sheets for all newly developed jewellery.
• Calculate material consumption, stone costs, components, labour, plating, polishing, assembly and finishing charges.
• Account for wastage, rejection, manufacturing overheads, packaging and other applicable expenses.
• Establish appropriate manufacturing costs and recommend selling prices based on target profit margins.
• Compare estimated costing with actual production costs and identify variations.
• Identify cost-reduction opportunities without compromising product quality.
• Coordinate with purchase and production departments to obtain updated raw material prices and manufacturing rates.
• Ensure costing accuracy before finalising product quotations.D. Production & Interdepartmental Coordination
• Coordinate with production, purchase, quality control, stores and merchandising departments.
• Ensure approved designs and specifications are followed during bulk production.
• Resolve technical and design-related issues arising during manufacturing.
• Monitor sample development schedules and ensure timely completion.
• Review production feasibility, material availability and manufacturing capacity before finalising new products.
• Work closely with quality control to maintain consistency in product finishing, plating and workmanship.E. Team Management & Reporting
• Lead and supervise the product development, design and costing team.
• Allocate responsibilities and monitor individual and departmental performance.
• Establish systems for design approvals, sample tracking and costing documentation.
• Submit periodic reports to management on new product development, costing, sample status and production feasibility.
• Ensure timely execution of assigned product development projects.3. REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS
• Thorough knowledge of imitation jewellery manufacturing processes.
• Strong understanding of jewellery components, stones, beads, chains, metal accessories and plating.
• Expertise in product development, design concepts and sampling.
• Good understanding of material consumption and manufacturing costing.
• Knowledge of labour costing, wastage, overheads and profit-margin calculations.
• Proficiency in CorelDRAW, Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop or relevant design software.
• Knowledge of market trends and fashion forecasting.
• Leadership, negotiation, communication and coordination skills.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.4. KEY PERFORMANCE INDICATORS (KPIs)
• Number of commercially viable new products developed every month.
• Timely completion of product development and sample approvals.
• Accuracy of estimated product costing against actual manufacturing costs.

• Timely coordination and resolution of production-related issues.
• Overall performance and productivity of the product development team.5. AUTHORITY & ACCOUNTABILITY
• Responsible for product development, design and costing activities.
• Recommend new materials, components and manufacturing processes.
• Recommend cost optimisation measures and design modifications.
• Review and approve samples within the authority delegated by management.
• Submit final product costing and pricing recommendations for management approval.
• Accountable for the accuracy of costing, timely product development and commercial viability of new products.6. OVERALL RESPONSIBILITY

The Manager – Product Development, Design & Costing shall be responsible for transforming creative jewellery concepts into commercially successful products by ensuring effective design development, accurate costing, manufacturing feasibility, cost optimisation and coordination with all concerned departments.
