About The Role
We are seeking a highly skilled Data Scientist to join our team on a 6-month contract basis. This role is remote, offering flexibility and the opportunity to work with a dynamic team dedicated to transforming operational data into actionable insights. As a Data Scientist at TELUS Digital AI Data Solutions, you will embed within our service delivery and client teams to analyze large, complex datasets, primarily focusing on operational quality and annotation data. Your expertise will be instrumental in developing models that predict quality issues, detect anomalies, and support capacity planning, ultimately enabling our clients to make data-driven decisions. This position requires a hands-on approach, combining technical proficiency with strong communication skills to translate complex findings into clear, strategic recommendations for both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Qualifications
The ideal candidate will possess a solid background in data science and quantitative analysis, with a minimum of four years of relevant experience. A strong foundation in applied statistics, including hypothesis testing, sampling, regression, and evaluation metrics such as precision, recall, F1 score, and reliability measures, is essential. Proficiency in Python, including libraries like pandas, scikit-learn, and NumPy, along with advanced SQL skills, is required. Experience working with large datasets stored in cloud data warehouses such as BigQuery or similar platforms is necessary. Candidates should demonstrate the ability to interpret ambiguous business problems, develop structured analyses, and communicate insights effectively to diverse audiences. A bachelor’s degree in Statistics, Computer Science, Mathematics, Economics, Engineering, or an equivalent field is preferred, complemented by practical experience in the field.
Responsibilities
- Analyze rater and annotation data to evaluate quality, consistency, and agreement, including metrics like inter-rater reliability, precision/recall, and temporal validation of task performance.
- Develop and validate statistical and machine learning models to predict quality issues, identify anomalies, and support workforce and capacity planning efforts.
- Design and conduct experiments such as A/B testing, sampling strategies, and audit frameworks to assess data and model quality for various client programs.
- Collaborate closely with delivery leads, program managers, and client stakeholders to define business questions, scope analyses, and deliver actionable insights.
- Work with large datasets using BigQuery and Google Cloud Platform, writing efficient, well-tested SQL and Python scripts for analysis and pipeline development.
- Communicate complex findings through clear visualizations, concise narratives, and executive summaries tailored for diverse audiences.
- Partner with data engineering and BI teams to operationalize recurring analyses and transition ad hoc work into automated, scalable reporting solutions.
