About Times of EV

Times of EV is a media platform covering electric vehicles, batteries, charging infrastructure, clean mobility, and the companies shaping the future of transportation.

We report on the automakers, startups, engineers, investors, and founders building the electric mobility industry. Our coverage spans passenger EVs, commercial vehicles, battery technology, charging networks, autonomous mobility, energy storage, and the infrastructure required to electrify transportation.

We write for professionals and industry participants, which means the detail has to be right.

The Role

We are hiring a Software Engineer to build and run the platform our journalism lives on.

Two things make this job more interesting than standard media engineering. The first is speed and reach: a story is worth nothing if the page takes six seconds to load, search cannot find it, or we have no idea whether anyone read it. The second is the data.

Covering EVs well means tracking things that are inherently structured. Vehicles have range figures, battery capacity, chemistry, charging standards, and prices that change by market and by model year. Charging networks have locations, connector types, power ratings, and uptime. Companies have factories, capacity targets, funding, and launch dates that slip. Incentives vary by country and expire. Almost none of this sits in one place, and much of it is published by parties with an interest in how it reads.

Turning that into a structured reference our writers and readers can rely on is the core engineering problem here. You will build the backend services and APIs behind the site, the data layer underneath them, and the tools editors use to research and publish.

You will work closely with editors. They are your users, and they will tell you plainly when a tool slows them down.

What You Will Do

* Build and maintain the backend services and APIs behind the publishing platform.

* Design and maintain the data models for vehicles, batteries, charging infrastructure, companies, and technologies.

* Build ingestion and integration with external data sources, and handle the fact that they conflict and go stale.

* Own site performance, from page speed and caching to how content is delivered.

* Build the internal tools editors use to research, write, publish, and manage coverage.

* Ship reader-facing data products: comparison pages, trackers, and reference tables.

* Build analytics and reporting that show what is read, how readers find us, and what is working.

* Own quality through tests, code review, monitoring, and debugging production issues.

* Contribute to architecture decisions and document them.

* Improve reliability, scalability, and security across the platform.

What You Will Need

* 1 to 5 years of professional software engineering experience, with production systems you have shipped and maintained.

* Strong fundamentals in data structures, algorithms, databases, and software design.

* Proficiency in Python, JavaScript or TypeScript, Java, Go, or a comparable modern language.

* Solid backend experience, including REST APIs, databases, and server-side frameworks.

* Experience designing structured data models for a domain with a lot of detail and a lot of exceptions.

* Fluency with Git and collaborative development workflows.

* Strong debugging instincts and the discipline to write code someone else can maintain.

* Clear communication with people who are not engineers, since your users are editors and researchers.

* The self-direction to work well on a distributed team.

* A bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.

Nice to Have

* Experience with a content management system, publishing platform, or news product.

* Web performance work: caching, CDN configuration, Core Web Vitals, and technical SEO.

* Search and retrieval, including full-text search, indexing, or ranking.

* Analytics instrumentation, event tracking, and reporting pipelines.

* Experience with large or continuously updated datasets.

* Cloud platforms such as AWS, GCP, or Azure, plus Docker and CI/CD.

* Integrating external APIs and data sources that you do not control.

* Applications built on LLMs, for search, summarization, classification, or editorial tooling.

* Interest in electric vehicles, batteries, charging, clean energy, or transportation technology.

Why This Role

A small team means real ownership. There is nobody between you and the decision, and the effect of your work shows up quickly in load times, search traffic, publishing speed, and how easily an editor can check a number before it goes out.

You will also work close to one of the fastest-changing industries in the world. Electric mobility is not only about cars. It sits where transportation, manufacturing, batteries, software, energy, and infrastructure meet, and the data problems reflect that.

Working Here

Remote, based in India. You choose where you work from.

Compensation is ₹12,00,000 to ₹18,00,000 per annum, set by experience and demonstrated engineering ability.
