Job Overview
We are looking for an experienced Python Tech Lead to drive the development of a greenfield Healthcare Revenue Cycle Management (RCM) Automation Platform. The role involves designing scalable backend services, healthcare EDI processing, REST APIs, workflow orchestration, and system integrations.
The ideal candidate should have strong Python engineering expertise, hands-on experience with FastAPI, and a solid understanding of healthcare EDI transactions, particularly X12 835 and 837. The candidate will own modules end-to-end, from design and development to testing and production deployment.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and develop scalable backend services and REST APIs using Python and FastAPI.
- Build healthcare EDI processing pipelines for X12 835 (Remittance Advice) and X12 837 (Healthcare Claims).
- Parse, validate, normalize, and enrich EDI transactions into structured data models.
- Develop reliable file-processing workflows with retries, idempotency, dead-letter queues, and robust error handling.
- Implement configuration-driven data mapping, SFTP automation, PGP encryption, and third-party integrations.
- Design workflow orchestration, transaction lifecycle state machines, event-driven processing, and scheduled jobs.
- Implement secure API authentication and authorization using OAuth2, JWT, and RBAC.
- Optimize SQL schemas, queries, and high-volume batch-processing workflows.
- Contribute to operational dashboards, monitoring interfaces, transaction viewers, and exception-management tools.
- Establish automated testing, CI/CD pipelines, structured logging, monitoring, and production-readiness practices.
- Ensure secure handling of Protected Health Information (PHI) and compliance with HIPAA requirements.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams and take ownership of features from design through production deployment.Required Technical Skills
- Python: Strong production-grade development experience, including typing, packaging, asynchronous programming, and Pytest.
- Backend Development: FastAPI or similar frameworks, REST APIs, Pydantic, OAuth2, JWT, and RBAC.
- Healthcare EDI: Hands-on knowledge of X12 835/837 transactions, EDI envelopes, segments, loops, and acknowledgments.
- Healthcare RCM: Understanding of claims processing, remittance posting, denial management, and clearinghouse integrations.
- Data & Integration: SQL, schema design, query optimization, SFTP, PGP encryption, and third-party integrations.
- Workflow Orchestration: Message queues, state machines, retries, idempotency, dead-letter queues, Celery, APScheduler, or Cron.
- DevOps: CI/CD, Docker, Kubernetes or OpenShift, logging, metrics, monitoring, and alerting.
- Frontend: Exposure to modern SPA frameworks and data-heavy operational dashboards.
- AI-Assisted Development: Experience using AI coding assistants such as Claude Code or similar tools, with the ability to validate generated code.Experience & Qualifications
- 10+ years of overall software development experience.
- 5–7 years of hands-on production-grade Python development.
- Proven experience building production REST APIs and scalable backend services.
- Strong understanding of healthcare EDI standards and RCM workflows.
- Experience owning modules end-to-end in an Agile engineering environment.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.Preferred Skills
- Healthcare RCM product development experience.
- Experience building secure, PHI-compliant applications from the ground up.
- Familiarity with EDI libraries such as pyx12 or LinuxForHealth EDI tooling.
- Experience with cloud-native deployments, OpenShift, and modern frontend frameworks.
