Job Description
Job Title: Senior Manager, Data Science
Location: Bangalore (Onsite)
Reporting to: Director, Data & Analytics
PURPOSE OF ROLE
Lead the hands-on delivery of difficult data science problems across major global programs. Take work from data pipelines and modeling through deployment and integration into high-priority products. Mentor data scientists and machine learning engineers, and turn useful methods into reusable packages that other programs can adopt.
KEY TASKS AND ACCOUNTABILITIES
- Own complex data science problems end to end, from framing and data readiness through modeling, deployment, and product integration.
- Design and implement data pipelines, models, and evaluation methods that hold up in production.
- Explore demanding problems across domains, selecting approaches that fit the evidence, business need, and delivery constraints.
- Write production code, review others’ work, and improve reproducibility, testing, monitoring, and model quality.
- Build reusable libraries and packages that make data science capabilities easier to integrate into multiple products and programs.
- Partner with engineers and global program teams to connect models and data products to real applications and workflows.
- Make sound technical and product judgments when a problem is ambiguous, and explain the tradeoffs clearly.
- Manage and develop data scientists and machine learning engineers through goals, feedback, hands-on problem solving, and code review.
QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE, SKILLS
Education:
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Data Science, Statistics, Mathematics, Computer Science, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
Experience:
- Typically 8+ years solving applied data science problems, including hands-on technical leadership and production delivery. Demonstrated depth matters more than a specific number of years.
Technical/Functional Skills:
Mandatory Skills:
- Python and the data science software ecosystem – Expert
- Applied statistics, modeling, and rigorous evaluation – Expert
- Data pipelines, production ML, and model deployment – Advanced
- Production-quality code, testing, code review, and reusable package design – Advanced
- AI-assisted coding workflows and coding agents, such as Codex – Expert
- Technical mentorship and communication – Advanced
Preferred (Good to have) Skills:
- Azure and Databricks environments – Intermediate
- Open-source contribution and reusable package development – Advanced
- Experience in optimization, forecasting, experimentation, or generative AI – Advanced
