About the Role

TIS runs makerspace and innovation programmes inside schools. As a Programming + Electronics Mentor, you will teach and guide students from Grades 1-8 through hands-on learning in coding, electronics, and physical computing. You will run makerspace activities. You will help students move from curiosity to building, tinkering, and problem-solving with real projects.

Key Responsibilities

Teaching and mentoring

● Deliver class-appropriate programming and electronics sessions across Grades 1-8 as per curriculum, from unplugged coding and block-based tools in the early grades to text-based coding and microcontroller projects in the upper grades.

● Guide students through circuits, sensors, motors, LEDs, and microcontroller platforms such as Arduino, micro:bit, and ESP32.

● Facilitate project-based, inquiry-driven learning that fits an IB (PYP/MYP) approach.

● Encourage design thinking, debugging, iteration, and reflection in every project.

Curriculum and content

● Help implement makerspace curriculum, including lesson plans, project guides, and assessment rubrics.

● Prepare learning materials, demo builds, and student worksheets.

● Contribute ideas for showcase events, exhibitions, and student-led conferences.

Makerspace operations

● Maintain tools, components, and kits, and keep inventory records.

● Enforce safety practices for soldering, power tools, batteries, and electronics.

● Keep the lab organised, labelled, and ready for sessions.

Collaboration and reporting

● Work closely with school teachers, coordinators, and the TIS team to align sessions with the school calendar.

● Track student progress and share updates and feedback with the Program Manager.

● Document projects with photos, videos, and short write-ups.

Required Qualifications and Skills

● Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Electronics, or a related field (or equivalent hands-on experience).

● Working knowledge of at least one programming language such as Python, C/C++, or Scratch, and block-based platforms.

● Hands-on experience with Arduino or similar microcontrollers, basic circuit design, and sensors/actuators.

● Ability to explain technical concepts simply to children of different ages.

● Strong classroom management, patience, and communication skills.

● Comfort with troubleshooting hardware and software issues in real time.

Good to Have

● Experience teaching or mentoring school students, or running workshops or clubs.

● Familiarity with robotics platforms or competitions.

● Exposure to IB, project-based, or inquiry-led learning.

● Basic knowledge of 3D printing, CAD, or laser cutting.

● Interest in AI/ML concepts for young learners.
