Software Development Engineer -1
About Mechademy
Mechademy is transforming the predictive analytics landscape for rotating machinery. Our flagship platform, Turbomechanica, seamlessly integrates applied physics with advanced machine learning to deliver prescriptive insights. Turbomechanica detects potential issues long before they become costly failures, enabling clients to maximize uptime, extend asset life, and reduce operational risks. By empowering clients with optimized performance and reliability of their multi-billion-dollar assets, we’re setting a new standard for operational excellence.
What We’re Looking For
People who would rather build than talk about building. You’ll fit right in if you:
- Like owning a problem end to end, from the first design note to production.
- Pick up new tools quickly, and have opinions about which ones we should use.
- Care about getting things right, because engineers make real decisions on what we build.
- Enjoy a small, energetic team that ships fast and celebrates its wins.
Why Mechademy?
Kickstart your career with a company that’s fun, innovative, and shaping the future of the oil and gas industry. Mechademy is where cutting-edge predictive analytics meets a culture of collaboration and creativity. We’re not your typical start-up company – we thrive on solving complex challenges with technology, fostering growth, and making an impact. Whether you're diving into groundbreaking projects, learning from industry leaders, or enjoying team outings, you’ll feel valued and inspired every step of the way.
- Work on groundbreaking technology that is shaping the future of rotating equipment diagnostics.
- Relish a challenging, dynamic role with opportunities for individual contributions that direct impact on the success of the company.
- Grow into a leadership position as Mechademy grows.
- Enjoy flexible work hours to work when you are most efficient.
- Generous compensation to help you achieve financial stability.
At Mechademy, your ideas matter, your growth is our priority, and your future starts now.
About the Role
An unplanned trip of a single critical machine can halt production at an entire facility. Turbomechanica exists to see that coming, and the team makes sure the right people see it, trust it and act on it in time. You do not need an industrial or mechanical background. Our domain engineers will teach you how turbines and compressors fail.
Responsibilities
- Platform - Design, build and own features on a secure, multi-tenant platform used by enterprise clients across the globe. Work on authentication, access control and auditability, web and mobile experiences, and APIs that let other systems work with platform data safely.
- Monitoring - Build the workflows that turn detected issues into alerts, escalations and tracked actions, and the tooling that helps engineers prioritise, investigate and resolve issues faster. Work with large volumes of time series sensor data.
- Reliability - Add alerting, health checks and dashboards so we catch problems before a client does.
- Engineering Quality - Write clean, tested code and own features from design through production. Write design notes, take part in design and code reviews, and document what you build.
- Ways of Working - Ship in two-week sprints using Git, GitHub, CI/CD and ClickUp. Use modern developer tooling, including AI coding assistants, while staying accountable for every line you merge.
Requirements
Must Have
- B.Tech / B.E. in Computer Science, IT, Electronics or a related branch
- 1.5+ years building and shipping production software
- Strong Python (preferred), or Java, Go, TypeScript or similar; solid DSA and OOP fundamentals
- REST APIs with Django, FastAPI, Flask, Express or similar
- SQL and relational databases, preferably PostgreSQL
- JavaScript or TypeScript, React preferred
- Web authentication basics (sessions, tokens, OAuth) and secure coding
- Git, code reviews, automated testing and CI/CD
- Clear communication and a real willingness to learn and take feedback
- LLM APIs (Claude and other leading models), Model Context Protocol (MCP), RAG and agent orchestration frameworks
Good to Have
- Open source work or side projects you can discuss in depth
- Interest or experience in applied machine learning or LLMs
- Multi-tenant SaaS systems
- Time series data or large datasets
- Mobile app development
- SSO / OIDC providers, role-based access control
- Docker, AWS or Azure in production; logging, monitoring and alerting tools
- Mentoring peers, writing clear design docs
What This Role Offers
- Work that matters -What you build runs in production every day at some of the world’s largest energy companies.
- Hard, real problems - Security, multi-tenancy, large-scale sensor data and systems engineers depend on.
- Ownership - A squad buddy gets you productive in 30 days; you own a part of the platform within 6 months.
- Mentorship - Learn from senior engineers and domain experts with decades of equipment experience.
- Growth - A clear path from SDE-1 to SDE-2.
- Flexibility - Flexible work hours and a hybrid setup.
Selection Process
- Introductory call - A short conversation with our talent team about your background, interests and expectations.
- Technical interview 1 - Problem solving and live coding, plus a deep dive into a project you have shipped.
- Technical interview 2 - System design and full stack fundamentals: APIs, data modelling, scaling and trade-offs.
- Hiring manager - A conversation with the P&M Squad Owner about how you work, own problems and grow.
- HR and culture - Team fit, compensation and joining logistics.
No trick puzzles. When you apply, tell us about something you have shipped. That matters more to us than where you have worked.
