Backend Developer (Node.js/TypeScript)

About The Role

Beroe is hiring a Backend Developer (1-2 years of experience) to help build Abi, an AI-powered assistant that helps procurement teams get answers to sourcing questions — category intelligence, supplier shortlisting, risk & compliance, category benchmarks, market monitoring, and cost drivers — in the shortest possible time. You'll work mainly on Abi's core Node.js/TypeScript backend, which powers the assistant across Microsoft Teams, Slack, and web chat. This is a full-time, remote role.

Key Responsibilities

• • Build and maintain REST APIs and services in Node.js/TypeScript using Express
• Work with MongoDB and MySQL (via TypeORM) for conversation, session, and application data
• Extend and maintain bot integrations built on Microsoft Bot Framework (Teams, Slack, web chat)
• Write and maintain automated tests with Jest, and follow existing lint/format conventions (ESLint, Prettier)
• Implement scheduled jobs, background workers, and integrations with AWS services (SQS, Lambda)
• Support document and report generation features (PDF, Excel exports) and web scraping/rendering utilities (Puppeteer)
• Debug and fix production issues, take part in code reviews, and collaborate with the wider product team
• Contribute to database migrations and keep documentation for the services you own up to date

Must-Have Skills & Experience

• • 1-2 years of hands-on experience building backend services in Node.js
• Working knowledge of TypeScript, or strong JavaScript fundamentals with the aptitude to ramp up on TypeScript quickly
• Experience with Express or a similar Node.js web framework
• Comfortable working with at least one database — MongoDB and/or a relational database like MySQL
• Understanding of REST API design and integrating with third-party APIs
• Familiarity with Git-based workflows (branching, pull requests, code review)
• Basic exposure to unit testing (Jest or similar)

Good to Have

• • Exposure to Microsoft Bot Framework, or building bots/integrations for Slack or Microsoft Teams
• Experience with AWS services such as SQS, Lambda, or S3
• Familiarity with an ORM (TypeORM, Sequelize, Prisma, or similar)
• Exposure to Python, particularly FastAPI, and interest in AI/LLM-based applications — we have a companion Python service built with FastAPI and OpenAI/Azure OpenAI
• Experience with Puppeteer or similar tools for PDF/document generation
• General interest in or prior exposure to building with LLMs or AI agents
