Senior Software Engineer – Java / Backend

About the Role

We are looking for an experienced Senior Software Engineer to join our engineering team. You will design, build, and enhance scalable backend services while solving complex challenges across distributed systems.

What You’ll Do

  • Independently design and deliver complex backend changes across N-central platform services.
  • Design and develop REST APIs, integrations, and database schemas within your team’s area of ownership.
  • Build and maintain scalable backend services using Java, with TypeScript where development extends to the front end.
  • Solve complex distributed-system challenges involving token issuance and renewal, event distribution and ordering, data pipeline throughput, and cross-service authorization.
  • Investigate customer-reported and production defects, identify root causes, and implement reliable fixes, including across unfamiliar codebases.
  • Design and optimize relational database queries and application data access for scalability and performance.
  • Participate in code reviews and maintain clear technical documentation for delivered solutions.
  • Contribute to technical estimation, refinement, architecture discussions, and engineering best practices.
  • Mentor intermediate engineers and support the team's overall technical growth.
  • Apply Spec-Driven Development (SDD) and AI-assisted development lifecycle (AI-DLC) practices to improve engineering quality and delivery.

What You’ll Bring

  • 7+ years of hands-on software development experience, with strong expertise in Java backend development.
  • Proven experience designing and building distributed systems and microservices, including services that communicate and fail independently.
  • Strong experience designing and developing REST APIs, with familiarity with SOAP-based integrations.
  • Working knowledge of TypeScript.
  • Strong experience with PostgreSQL or comparable relational databases, including query design and performance optimization.
  • Experience with event-driven architecture, asynchronous processing, and message queues.
  • Familiarity with AWS cloud services and modern CI/CD pipelines.
  • Demonstrated experience with Spec-Driven Development (SDD), AI-assisted development lifecycle (AI-DLC) practices, or directly comparable engineering methodologies.
  • Strong debugging and problem-solving skills, particularly across complex or unfamiliar systems.
  • Ability to independently own technical deliverables while collaborating effectively with engineering teams.
