Project Title: Geo-spatial Agriculture Planning Platform for Climate Resilient Dharashiv and Ratnagiri

Details About the Project: IITB has developed a GIS-based scientific planning framework as part of the Project on Climate Resilient Agriculture (PoCRA) - Phase 1, which was implemented in around 6000 villages in the 15 districts of Marathwada and Vidarbha. The above IITB-PoCRA water budget framework can be extended to all the villages at the district level, even to non-PoCRA villages. The related planning tools and IT products (such as dashboards, mobile apps, etc.) can be made available to district planners (such as District Planning office, District Superintendent Agriculture Office, Taluka Agriculture Office, Agriculture Assistants, etc.) on a continuous basis for better and more responsive climate-resilient agricultural planning in the district.

Job Profile: The candidate will be a member of the team responsible for delivering geospatial planning platform modules to the Dharashiv district collector and district agriculture office. The planning platform comprises the water budget model implementation, various GIS layers, a backend Python API to perform various planning activities and front ends including a dashboard and a mobile app. The candidate will be responsible for performing software development, formulating efficient geospatial queries, incorporating new vector and raster datasets, implementing software in all the modules listed above. <TODO: revise and add more points>.

Expectations from the candidate:

  • Engineering in any discipline, Masters degree in science stream, preferably geoinformatics and geography.
  • Experience of working with government offices, particularly GoM.
  • Hands-on expertise with open source GIS tools such as QGIS, PostGIS, GRASS, GeoServer.
  • Experience of developing efficient SQL queries for geospatial analysis with PostgreSQL
  • Hands-on expertise in web based software development using Python, JavaScript, REST APIs for serving GIS layers using GeoServer.
  • Well versed with remote sensing data data processing tools and raster data analysis.
  • Preference will be given to candidates having experience with government agencies.
  • Strong writing skills and communication skills in English and Marathi
  • Ready to do fieldwork across Maharashtra
