ABOUT THE ROLE

RIVN Tech is looking for a hands-on Backend Engineer to take technical ownership of the backend services and infrastructure supporting our mobile application. You will build and maintain APIs, manage databases and AWS infrastructure, and keep payment integrations running reliably.

This role combines backend development with production support and technical coordination. You should be comfortable investigating issues across services, databases and infrastructure, making practical technical decisions, and working with frontend developers, internal teams and service providers.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Backend development: Build, maintain and improve Node.js services, APIs and business logic, taking work from requirements through testing, deployment and ongoing support. Work with Flutter developers to integrate backend functionality into the app.
Payments and wallet flows: Integrate and maintain Paysafe payment journeys, including deposits, withdrawals and transaction status updates. Handle failed or pending transactions, secure callbacks and webhooks, duplicate requests, and reconciliation between payment records and wallet balances.
AWS operations: Manage application hosting, environment configuration, deployments, monitoring, access permissions and backups. Troubleshoot availability and performance issues, and monitor infrastructure costs.
Database management: Maintain MongoDB data models, indexes, queries and access controls. Manage migrations, data integrity, backups and recovery procedures.
Quality and security: Write maintainable code, review changes and test critical backend and payment flows. Maintain authentication, authorisation, input validation, secure credential handling and appropriate protection of user and payment data.
Production support: Investigate bugs and incidents across backend services, payment integrations, databases and infrastructure. Address root causes and maintain useful logs, alerts and recovery documentation.
Technical coordination: Work with internal teams and external developers to plan releases and maintain quality. Ensure complete handovers of source code, documentation, infrastructure access and deployment processes.
