Back End Developer

We are a small, fast-moving team building meaningful technology for real human learning outcomes, and AI is a core part of how we are shaping the next phase of the product.

The Role

We are looking for a Backend Developer who can own the systems that power our app and dashboards. You will work closely with our AI developer to bring AI workflows into production and enhance real-world user experiences.

What You'll Do

• Build and maintain backend services and APIs in Node.js and TypeScript.
• Design, build, and optimise complex MongoDB aggregation pipelines.
• Partner with the AI developer to take AI workflows from prototype to production.
• Improve system reliability, monitoring, and response times across our services.
• Debug production issues, identify bottlenecks, and ship fixes quickly.

What We're Looking For

• 2 to 3 years of hands-on backend development experience with strong Node.js and TypeScript skills.
• Solid experience with MongoDB, including schema design and query optimisation.
• Good understanding of REST API design, authentication, and security best practices.
• Sharp judgement on which AI tool to use for which purpose. You actively adapt AI tools (Claude, Cursor, ChatGPT, Copilot, and others) to ship work faster and better.
• Ownership mindset, you take a problem from "reported" to "fixed and verified".

Nice to Have

• Background in EdTech, SaaS, or consumer apps with high traffic.
• Familiarity with WebSockets or real-time systems.
