Backend Engineer - SDE 3 - Python/Java/Go

Location: Bengaluru, 5 days/week

The Opportunity:

We are looking for a strong Backend Engineer (SDE 3) with experience building and scaling high-performance backend systems in product-based technology companies. You will drive system design, architect distributed services, and own critical backend components end-to-end in a high-scale, real-time environment.

This is a senior individual contributor role requiring strong technical depth, architectural ownership, engineering rigour, and the ability to raise the technical bar across the team.

What You’ll Do:

• Design scalable systems: Architect and build distributed backend systems that are highly available, fault-tolerant, and optimised for performance at scale.
• Own services end-to-end: Drive technical design, development, deployment, monitoring, and continuous improvement of critical backend services.
• Drive architectural decisions: Make sound trade-offs around scalability, latency, consistency, reliability, and system complexity.
• Build robust backend services: Develop production-grade APIs and services using Java or Go, with clean abstractions and maintainable code.
• Ensure operational excellence: Implement observability, monitoring, alerting, and incident management practices to maintain service reliability and meet SLAs.
• Solve complex engineering problems: Debug production issues, identify bottlenecks, and proactively address performance, scalability, and reliability challenges.
• Maintain high engineering standards: Drive code quality, code reviews, testing practices, documentation, and technical design reviews.
• Mentor engineers: Guide SDE 1 and SDE 2 engineers through design reviews, code reviews, technical discussions, and execution planning.
• Collaborate cross-functionally: Partner with product and infrastructure teams to translate business requirements into scalable, reliable technical solutions.

What We’re Looking For

• 6–8 years of hands-on backend engineering experience, preferably from product-based technology companies or high-growth product startups.
• Strong proficiency in Python, Java or Go, with solid understanding of object-oriented programming and software engineering principles.
• Proven experience designing, building, and scaling distributed systems in production environments.
• Strong fundamentals in data structures, algorithms, concurrency, database design, and system design.
• Experience building high-throughput, low-latency backend services and scalable APIs.
• Strong understanding of databases, caching, asynchronous processing, message queues, and system reliability.
• Demonstrated ownership of critical services, architectural decisions, and production systems.
• Experience with performance optimisation, production debugging, observability, and incident management.
• Ability to make independent technical decisions, drive engineering excellence, and mentor junior engineers.
