Lead Engineer – Integrated Smart Pole Solutions
JOB PURPOSE : Smart pole development
Own the end-to-end architecture, integration, development and validation of an integrated Smart Pole solution combining smart lighting, video surveillance, environmental sensing, EV charging and digital LED display capabilities. Deliver a secure, interoperable, remotely managed solution by integrating field devices, embedded firmware, communication protocols and software platforms into a scalable, reliable product for smart cities, infrastructure and commercial applications.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Define end-to-end system architecture for an integrated Smart Pole, covering smart LED lighting, CCTV/IP cameras, environmental sensors (air quality, temperature, humidity, noise and other applicable parameters), EV chargers, digital LED display/signage and the central connected management platform.
- Translate business, customer and project requirements into system specifications, interface-control documents, block diagrams, integration plans, acceptance criteria and product requirements.
- Lead hardware, embedded firmware, device, network and application integration across heterogeneous vendors and technologies; manage interface dependencies and resolve system-level issues.
- Integrate communication and application protocols such as MQTT, HTTP/HTTPS, REST APIs, Modbus, TCP/IP, ONVIF, RTSP, BLE, Wi-Fi, Ethernet, LoRaWAN, cellular and other relevant protocols as applicable to selected devices.
- Define and integrate device onboarding, provisioning, configuration, remote monitoring, diagnostics, alarms, OTA firmware/software updates, data logging, dashboards and fleet/device lifecycle management.
- Lead firmware and software integration with cloud/edge platforms, mobile/web applications, analytics, video management systems, lighting controls, EV charging management systems and third-party enterprise/city platforms.
- Establish cybersecurity-by-design for devices and platforms, including secure boot, signed firmware, identity and certificate management, authentication/authorization, encryption, key management, network segmentation, vulnerability management and secure update mechanisms.
- Ensure interoperability, scalability, availability and performance across multi-vendor devices; define fallback modes, offline behaviour, time synchronisation, data integrity and fault recovery.
- Plan and execute integration testing, system verification, field trials, reliability testing, cybersecurity testing and user acceptance; manage defects through root-cause analysis and closure.
- Coordinate with electronics, mechanical, lighting, firmware, software, cloud, cybersecurity, EV charging, camera, sensor, display, manufacturing, quality, sourcing and service teams, as well as external technology partners.
- Evaluate vendors and technical solutions; review datasheets, SDKs, APIs, protocol specifications, firmware release notes and compliance evidence. Drive proof-of-concepts and technical due diligence.
- Prepare and maintain architecture documents, interface specifications, BOM inputs, test plans, deployment guides, service procedures and technical documentation.
- Support design-for-manufacturing, installation and commissioning, remote serviceability, lifecycle management, cost optimisation and product roadmap planning.
- Drive project execution, risks, milestones and technical reviews; mentor engineers and ensure delivery against agreed quality, cost, performance and schedule targets.
