Role: Individual Contributor — End-to-End Engineering Ownership

About Ve

At Ve, we're building a new generation of AI-native software that fundamentally changes how people interact with computers, intelligence, and technology.

We believe the future of software won't simply respond to instructions. It will understand intent, reason through complex problems, take action, and help people accomplish things that previously seemed impossible.

We're a small, deeply technical team building at the frontier of artificial intelligence, autonomous agents, and human-computer interaction.

We're not interested in building another AI wrapper.

We're interested in building systems that redefine what software can do.

The Opportunity

We're looking for exceptional Founding Engineers who want to build ambitious technology from the ground up.This is not a conventional software engineering role.

You won't be joining a large team where responsibilities are narrowly divided and someone else makes all the important decisions. You'll work directly with the founder and a small group of highly capable engineers. You'll have significant ownership over architecture, implementation, performance, reliability, and the final product experience. We need engineers who can take a difficult problem, figure out the right approach, build it, ship it, and make sure it actually works. Not just people who write code. People who own outcomes.

What You'll Own

  • End-to-end engineering: Take complex features and systems from initial concept through architecture, implementation, deployment, and production.
  • AI-native systems: Build intelligent agents, orchestration systems, model integrations, and autonomous workflows.
  • Product engineering: Develop fast, intuitive, reliable experiences across desktop applications, backend services, and AI-powered interfaces.
  • Systems architecture: Design scalable, maintainable systems capable of supporting sophisticated, long-running AI operations.
  • Performance engineering: Identify bottlenecks, optimize execution, reduce latency, and continuously improve system efficiency.
  • Reliability and quality: Build robust error handling, observability, testing, recovery, and verification into everything you ship.
  • Technical decisions: Evaluate trade-offs, challenge assumptions, and independently choose the right technologies and approaches.
  • Production ownership: Debug difficult problems, investigate failures, and take responsibility for keeping your systems working. You'll be expected to understand the bigger picture, not just your assigned component.

What We're Looking For

Minimum Requirements

  • At least 4 years of professional software engineering experience building and shipping real products.
  • Exceptional programming ability in at least one modern language such as TypeScript, Python, Rust, Go, or C++.
  • Strong fundamentals in computer science, algorithms, data structures, concurrency, and systems design.
  • Experience designing, building, and maintaining complex production systems.
  • Strong understanding of APIs, distributed systems, databases, and asynchronous architectures.
  • Ability to work across frontend, backend, infrastructure, and integrations when needed.
  • Excellent debugging skills and the ability to understand unfamiliar codebases quickly.
  • Experience making architectural decisions and understanding their long-term consequences.
  • Strong engineering judgment around performance, reliability, scalability, and security.
  • Ability to work independently, move quickly, and deliver production-ready solutions.

Especially Valuable

  • Experience building AI agents, coding agents, or LLM-powered products.
  • Experience with Claude, Codex, OpenAI, or other model APIs and agent harnesses.
  • Understanding of agent orchestration, parallel execution, tool calling, memory, and context management.
  • Experience with Electron, Chromium, desktop applications, or native macOS development.
  • Experience building developer tools, IDEs, CLIs, or code intelligence systems.
  • Experience with AWS, cloud infrastructure, containers, and distributed execution.
  • Contributions to meaningful open-source projects.
  • Experience building products from zero to one.You don't need to know every technology we use.

But you must be exceptionally good at learning, reasoning, and building.

The Kind of Engineer Who Will Thrive Here

You are deeply curious about how things work.

You don't stop at the first solution. You ask whether there's a fundamentally better way to solve the problem.

You care about speed, but never confuse writing code quickly with building something correctly.

You can navigate large, unfamiliar systems and identify the real cause of difficult problems.

You don't need detailed specifications for every decision.

You take initiative, investigate independently, and make things happen.

You care about the quality of what ships.

You don't consider a task complete because the code compiles, a pull request is merged, or a demo looks good.

You consider it complete when the intended outcome works reliably in the real product.

You're comfortable taking responsibility, receiving direct feedback, and working in an environment where expectations are extremely high.

You want to build something important, not simply complete tickets.

How We Work

We're a small team with an unusually ambitious technical vision.

We move fast. We experiment constantly. We challenge existing approaches and aren't afraid to rebuild something when we discover a better architecture.

Engineers have significant freedom, but that freedom comes with responsibility.

We expect you to think independently, communicate clearly, collaborate closely, and own the quality of your work.

We use AI extensively in our engineering process.

But we believe the most valuable engineers are those who can exercise exceptional judgment- understanding what to build, how to build it, why it works, and whether it actually solves the problem.

AI can accelerate implementation. Engineering judgment is what makes the result exceptional.

What Success Looks Like

Within your first 90 days, we expect you to:

  • Develop a deep understanding of Ve's architecture, product, and technical direction.
  • Independently take ownership of important engineering systems or product capabilities.
  • Ship meaningful improvements that users can experience.
  • Improve the performance, reliability, and maintainability of the systems you own.
  • Identify technical weaknesses and proactively solve them.
  • Become someone the team can trust with complex, ambiguous engineering challenges.Over time, we want you to become a defining technical contributor to the company.

Why Join Ve?

Because you want to build technology that doesn't already exist.

You'll work directly with the founder, influence fundamental architectural decisions, and help shape a product from its earliest stages.

You'll have the opportunity to work on some of the most interesting problems in AI-native computing - intelligent agents, autonomous execution, developer tools, and new forms of human-computer interaction.

No unnecessary engineering bureaucracy.

No narrowly defined responsibilities.

No endless layers of approvals.

Just difficult problems, talented people, real ownership, and the opportunity to build something extraordinary.

We're looking for engineers who want to do the most important work of their careers.

How to Apply

Please share:

  • Your GitHub profile or examples of meaningful technical work.
  • The most complex system you've personally designed and built.
  • A difficult engineering problem you solved independently.
  • One example of something you've shipped and owned in production.
  • Why you're interested in building AI-native software at Ve.

We're far more interested in what you've actually built than where you've worked.

Minimum 4 years of experience. Exceptional engineering ability. Complete ownership.
