Senior Software Engineer - Cyber Fraud

Role Summary:

Staples is seeking an experienced Senior Software Engineer to serve as a technical lead within the Global Capability Center (GCC) and support the Cyber Fraud Prevention / Cyber Analytics organization. This role will provide day-to-day technical leadership and mentorship for junior developers, including oversight and coaching of existing GCC development resources. The position will be responsible for designing, developing, and supporting enterprise applications across fraud analytics, cargo loss, claims management, and other cyber analytics initiatives.

The ideal candidate is a strong full-stack engineer with expertise in modern web application development, API design, backend architecture, and data engineering. This individual will collaborate closely with U.S.-based engineers, analysts, data scientists, and business stakeholders to deliver scalable, maintainable, and secure solutions.

Duties & Responsibilities:

• Provide technical direction and mentorship to junior GCC developers.
• Conduct code reviews and establish development best practices.
• Assist in architectural decisions and technology standards.
• Support knowledge transfer, documentation, and operational readiness.
• Partner with senior engineers in the U.S. to accelerate delivery and reduce key-person dependency.
• Design, build, and maintain modern web applications using Svelte and Vite.
• Develop reusable front-end components and responsive user interfaces.
• Integrate front-end applications with backend services and APIs.
• Support modernization of existing applications and legacy systems.
• Design and develop scalable backend services using Python and Django.
• Build and maintain REST APIs that support internal applications and analytics platforms.
• Develop application business logic and backend services that communicate with relational databases through ORM frameworks.
• Implement authentication, authorization, logging, monitoring, and error-handling standards.
• Design and maintain data pipelines supporting application workflows and analytics use cases.
• Develop ETL/ELT processes using Python and SQL.
• Integrate operational systems, APIs, and databases to support reporting and automation initiatives.
• Ensure data quality, performance, scalability, and reliability.
• Design database schemas, relationships, and indexing strategies.
• Optimize SQL queries and application performance.
• Support application deployments, release validation, and production troubleshooting.
• Participate in technical support and operational handoff processes.

Requirements

Education Requirements:

Minimum Bachelor’s Degree: BA/BS degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.

Minimum Years of Experience: 5+ years of software development experience.

Basic Qualifications:

• 5+ years of software development experience.
• Strong expertise in Python development.
• Strong expertise in JavaScript and modern web application architecture.
• Strong experience with Django and Django REST Framework.
• Experience building and supporting REST APIs.
• Experience designing backend services that communicate with relational databases using ORM patterns.
• Strong hands-on experience with Svelte and SvelteKit.
• Experience using Vite for modern front-end development workflows.
• Understanding of component-based architecture, state management, routing, and client-side performance optimization.
• Experience consuming APIs and building interactive data-driven applications.
• Strong understanding of API architecture and integration patterns.
• Experience with PostgreSQL, SQL Server, MySQL, or similar relational databases.
• Knowledge of database modeling, indexing, query optimization, and schema design.
• Experience implementing secure and scalable application architectures.
• Experience building and supporting data pipelines.
• Advanced SQL skills.
• Experience performing data transformations, validations, and integrations.
• Knowledge of ETL/ELT concepts and data orchestration patterns.
• Experience with C# and .NET applications.
• Experience supporting and modernizing legacy applications.
• Familiarity with source control systems such as Git and Bitbucket.
• Experience with CI/CD pipelines, deployment processes, and development lifecycle management.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience working with analytics or business intelligence applications.
• Experience supporting fraud prevention, risk management, cybersecurity, or asset protection platforms.
• Experience with Snowflake, Azure, cloud-native services, or container technologies.
• Experience mentoring developers or serving as a technical lead.
• Experience working in globally distributed teams with offshore/onshore collaboration models.
