Data Scientist

Position Overview

BNP Paribas Fortis seeks a Data Scientist for the Tribe Artificial Intelligence team. Reporting to the ISPL ITG Fortis ADM department, the role will support the development, deployment, and monitoring of AI applications that enhance customer experiences, improve employee productivity, and automate internal processes. The position requires at least three years of hands‑on data‑science experience (five years preferred) and a strong background in Python, SQL, and modern MLOps tooling.

Job Responsibilities

• Collect, label, curate, structure, and engineer features from large data sets to improve model performance.
• Apply a broad range of analytical methods—including classical machine‑learning, statistical modelling, and generative AI—to answer business questions and optimise existing AI assets.
• Design, implement, and maintain production‑grade AI pipelines using CI/CD, Airflow, Mlflow, Docker, and Kubernetes, ensuring reliable model deployment and version control.
• Establish model‑monitoring frameworks that track input and target data over time to detect drift and maintain model quality.
• Automate end‑to‑end modelling workflows, from data ingestion and preprocessing to model training, evaluation, and serving.
• Collaborate with product owners, scrum masters, and business stakeholders to translate requirements into scalable AI solutions.

Required Education, Skills, AND Experience (MUST‑HAVE)

• Minimum 5 years of professional experience in data science or machine‑learning engineering, preferably in the financial sector.
• A Master’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Statistics, Mathematics, or a closely related discipline (or an equivalent combination of education and experience).
• Proven expertise in Python and SQL, with hands‑on experience using Pandas for data manipulation.
• Strong working knowledge of big‑data technologies such as Hadoop and Spark (or PySpark).
• Demonstrated ability to develop and deploy classical ML models (e.g., regression, classification, clustering) as well as generative‑AI solutions (LLMs, retrieval‑augmented generation).
• Experience building and operating CI/CD pipelines, Airflow orchestration, and Mlflow model tracking.
• Ability to design and implement model‑monitoring and drift‑detection mechanisms.
• Excellent English communication skills, both written and verbal.
• Proven track record of delivering AI projects end‑to‑end, from data preparation through production deployment.

Preferred Education, Skills, AND Experience (NICE‑TO‑HAVE)

• Experience of three or more years within the banking, insurance, or broader financial‑services industry.
• Familiarity with Agile scrum practices and participation in cross‑functional sprint ceremonies.
• Hands‑on experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, Google Cloud) and container orchestration (Kubernetes, Helm).
• Knowledge of additional programming languages (R, Java, Scala) or data‑visualisation tools (Power BI, Tableau).
• Exposure to data‑observability tools and techniques for automated data quality checks.
