Alternate titles- Veeva Developer, Software Development Engineer – Veeva
Department- Product Development / Technology
Location- Hyderabad, India
Experience-1–2 years in software development
Education- B.E./B.Tech/M.Tech/MCA in Computer Science, IT or related field
Employment type- Full-time
About the role
This is a core software engineering role, not a configuration or admin role. You will write production JavaScript/TypeScript, HTML and CSS to build custom pages, dashboards and tools that run inside Veeva Vault CRM on browser, iPad and iPhone.
You will work with pharmaceutical commercial data — accounts, calls, territories, products — and turn business requirements into reliable, well-tested code. We are looking for strong programming fundamentals first; Veeva platform knowledge can be built on the job.
You will work closely with senior developers, Veeva CRM consultants and client stakeholders across the full software development lifecycle: requirements, design, development, testing, deployment and support.
Key responsibilities
Development
- Design and build custom X-Pages (HTML, CSS, JavaScript/TypeScript) using the Veeva JS library, including dashboards, pre-call planning views and field activity trackers.
- Write clean, modular, maintainable code with proper error handling, input validation and performance in mind.
- Query and combine CRM data (Accounts, Calls, Territories, Products and custom objects) and implement the business logic behind KPIs, aggregations, filters and date ranges.
- Build pages that work reliably both online and offline on iPad/iPhone and in the browser.
- Integrate with REST APIs and external data sources where required.
Data and dashboard logic
- Understand CRM data models, object relationships and field-level data before building on them.
- Translate business metrics (call activity, reach, frequency, execution) into correct calculations.
- Reconcile dashboard numbers against source data or existing reports (e.g. Tableau, Power BI) and explain differences.
Software lifecycle
- Participate in requirement discussions and break features into tasks with realistic estimates.
- Use Git for version control, raise pull requests and take part in code reviews.
- Write and run unit and integration tests; support UAT and production smoke testing.
- Package and deploy X-Pages across sandbox, QA and production environments; validate behaviour in each.
- Debug issues using browser DevTools (console, network, payloads) and fix root causes rather than symptoms.
- Document technical design, deployment steps and known issues.
Collaboration and quality
- Work with senior developers and Veeva consultants on architecture and design decisions.
- Follow secure coding practices and handle client and commercial data in line with access-control and compliance requirements.
Required qualifications and skills
Education and experience
- Bachelor's in Computer Science, IT or a related engineering field.
- 1–2 years of professional software development experience (internships with shipped code count).
Programming fundamentals (must-have)
- Strong JavaScript (ES6+): async/await, promises, closures, array/object manipulation, modules.
- Solid HTML5 and CSS3, including responsive layouts.
- Strong problem-solving and programming logic: data structures, algorithms, debugging.
- Working knowledge of REST APIs and JSON.
- Good SQL fundamentals: joins, filtering, grouping, aggregations.
- Git and a standard branching/pull-request workflow.
Engineering practice
- Understanding of the software development lifecycle (Agile/Scrum preferred).
- Habit of writing readable, tested code and following code review feedback.
- Comfort with browser DevTools for debugging UI, network and data issues.
Domain and platform awareness
- Basic understanding of CRM concepts: accounts, contacts, activities, objects, fields and relationships.
- Exposure to Veeva CRM, Veeva Vault or Salesforce, or a clear willingness to learn them quickly.
- Ability to understand the business logic behind a dashboard metric, not just display data.
Soft skills
- Clear written and spoken English for working with distributed teams and clients.
- Ownership, attention to detail and willingness to ask questions early.
Preferred Qualifications
- Hands-on experience with Veeva Vault CRM X-Pages, Veeva CRM MyInsights, or X-Pages Studio.
- Familiarity with VQL (Vault Query Language) or Salesforce SOQL, Apex or Lightning Web Components.
- TypeScript and a modern front-end framework (React, Vue or similar).
- Charting libraries (Chart.js, D3, ECharts) and dashboard design.
- Node.js, build tooling (npm, Vite/Webpack) and basic CI/CD.
- Exposure to Power BI, Tableau, Snowflake or Databricks.
- Awareness of offline-first design for mobile/iPad apps.
- Understanding of life-sciences/pharma commercial operations (field force, HCPs, territories).
- Awareness of data privacy and regulated environments (e.g. 21 CFR Part 11, GxP).
