Principal Delivery Architect
Role Mandate & Core Responsibilities
You own the thread from customer problem to production outcome. The role is consultative and hands-on: determine what should be built, architect how it should work, guide delivery, remove blockers and ensure the solution can scale.
1. Customer Discovery & Value
- Lead R&D/QC discovery and requirements workshops; understand science, process, data, pain points and constraints.
- Quantify value, define success criteria and guide customers toward scalable, sustainable choices.
2. Solution & Delivery Architecture
- Architect end-to-end solutions spanning DLX, instruments, CDS/LIMS/ELN/LES, APIs, databases, cloud and enterprise systems.
- Translate requirements into functional, integration, data, security and deployment architecture; own delivery-level technical decisions.
3. Scalable Delivery & Industrialization
- Establish First-of-Kind patterns and Adaptive Workflows for materially distinct instrument/application families.
- Drive configuration-led reuse, process harmonization and wave-based scale across laboratories and sites.
4. Forward Deployed Leadership
- Act as the technical bridge between the customer and PAS, ESG, Product, Engineering, Validation, Support and PMO.
- Surface dependencies early, accelerate decisions, resolve blockers and bridge central program teams with site/lab stakeholders.
5. AI-Enabled Lab Transformation
- Translate AI agents and automation into concrete scientific and operational use cases.
- Map AI opportunities to customer pain points and identify practical uses across data processing, decision support, testing, documentation and delivery.
6. Proof of Value & Production Readiness
- Lead or advise PoV, pilot and early-production engagements; define success criteria for functionality, security, operability, scalability and reuse.
- Ensure solutions are testable, monitorable, supportable, traceable and ready for production.
7. Regulatory & Validation Alignment
- Work with QA/Validation to align delivery with GxP, CSA/CSV, 21 CFR Part 11, GAMP 5 and data-integrity expectations.
- Understand intended use and validation impact; ensure evidence supports the agreed assurance strategy.
8. Cross-Functional & Commercial Alignment
- Partner with Sales, Services, Product, Engineering, Strategy, Marketing and Customer Success.
- Review SOWs, estimates, assumptions and technical proposals for achievability; feed customer insight into roadmap and methodology.
9. Technical Governance & Team Multiplication
- Provide technical governance across internal teams, customer stakeholders, System Integrators and vendors.
- Mentor PAS teams and create reusable architectures, playbooks, templates, patterns and implementation accelerators.
10. Competitive & Market Awareness
- Understand the lab technology and integration landscape and articulate Scitara's differentiation.
- Connect technology choices to business value, scalability, risk and total cost of ownership.
Experience & Technical Bar
Experience
- Typically 10+ years in pharma/life-sciences technology, laboratory informatics, scientific software, enterprise integration or adjacent domains.
- Significant customer-facing technical/consulting experience with evidence of leading discovery, architecture or complex implementations.
Scientific & Laboratory Domain
- Strong understanding of R&D and/or QC processes and scientific data flows.
- Demonstrated ability to solve real scientific/laboratory problems; applications scientist, lab informatics, lab manager or scientist experience is a strong differentiator.
Lab Informatics & Instruments
- Working knowledge of LIMS, ELN, LES, CDS, scientific data platforms, laboratory automation and instrument integration.
- Exposure to platforms such as Empower, Chromeleon, UNICORN/ÄKTA, SoftMax Pro, Magellan, LabX and common analytical instruments is desirable.
Enterprise Integration & Cloud
- Strong understanding of APIs, JSON/XML, file interfaces, SQL/databases, event-driven integration, mapping/transformation, authentication, error handling and retry/recovery.
- Comfort with cloud/hybrid architecture and enterprise networking; AWS knowledge is advantageous.
Regulated Delivery
- Working knowledge of GxP, 21 CFR Part 11, GAMP 5, ALCOA+, CSA/CSV, data integrity and regulated-system lifecycle expectations.
- Able to engage credibly with QA/Validation stakeholders.
Education & Mobility
- Bachelor's degree or above in a scientific, engineering, computer science or related discipline.
- Excellent verbal, written, presentation and listening skills; willing to travel domestically and internationally, typically 20–30%.
AI & Software Engineering Expectations
AI PROFICIENCY IS A CORE EXPECTATION
AI is not a future training objective for this role. Candidates should already demonstrate active, self-directed use of modern AI technologies and a willingness to build with them.
Expected AI Familiarity
- Generative AI / LLMs; agentic AI; prompt/context engineering; tool/function calling; RAG; AI-assisted development and workflow automation.
Evidence We Expect
- Courses, prototypes, projects or internal initiatives completed through self-directed learning.
- Examples of agents, automations or AI-enabled workflows personally explored or built.
Software & Data
- Python and/or JavaScript/TypeScript proficiency is strongly preferred.
- Comfort with APIs, structured data and data-engineering approaches for analytics and AI/ML.
How You Will Apply AI
- Improve discovery, design, coding, testing, documentation, troubleshooting and knowledge retrieval.
- Help customers design AI-enabled scientific workflows grounded in trusted, contextualized data.
Leadership DNA
Consultative Leadership — Ask incisive questions and recommend - do not simply accept requirements.
Ownership — Stay accountable for outcomes and drive issues through to closure.
Technical Credibility — Earn the confidence of scientists, architects and engineers.
Executive Presence — Make complex issues clear and actionable for senior stakeholders.
Constructive Challenge — Professionally disagree when evidence or customer outcomes require it.
Decision Making — Make sound recommendations even when information is incomplete.
Influence Without Authority — Mobilize teams and vendors across organizational boundaries.
Commercial Awareness — Understand how technical choices affect scale, effort, risk and total cost.
Curiosity — Continuously learn, experiment and stay current - especially in AI.
Low Ego, High Accountability — Prioritize outcomes and team success over hierarchy or visibility.
Who Should Apply
This role is designed for a rare combination of domain expert, architect, consultant and delivery leader. You should recognize yourself in most of the statements below:
- You can walk into an ambiguous customer situation and quickly structure the problem.
- You are comfortable leading scientists, architects, QA leaders, engineers and executives in the same discussion.
- You can move from scientific workflow to architecture to delivery implications without losing the thread.
- You challenge unnecessary customization and naturally look for reusable, scalable patterns.
- You make recommendations and decisions rather than waiting for perfect information.
- You influence teams and vendors that do not report to you.
- You remain engaged through production; you do not stop at the architecture hand-off.
- You actively experiment with AI and modern software practices because curiosity is part of how you work.
THE MINDSET
A strong implementation specialist asks: "What needs to be built?" A Principal Delivery Architect asks: "What problem are we solving, what should we build, how should we architect it, and how do we make it repeatable, scalable and successful in production?"

FINAL EXPECTATION
We are looking for someone who can understand the scientific and business problem, determine the right solution, earn stakeholder confidence, make difficult technical decisions, mobilize the organization, and remain accountable until the outcome is successfully delivered and adopted.
If your professional development stops when the working day ends, this role is unlikely to be the right fit.
We are looking for people whose curiosity naturally drives them to experiment, learn, build and stay current with technologies changing the way scientific work is performed.
