Power BI Developer

ROLE SUMMARY

We are looking for a senior Power BI professional who can architect and build next-generation, enterprise-grade analytical products. This is not a conventional reporting role: the candidate will own complex semantic models, advanced DAX, high-end visualization, performance engineering and AI-enabled analytics, while setting technical standards for the BI team.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Architect and develop highly interactive Power BI dashboards using drill-through, bookmarks, field parameters, dynamic titles, custom tooltips, what-if parameters, dynamic navigation and guided analytical journeys.
• Build sophisticated DAX for complex filter/context logic, virtual tables, time intelligence, cohorts, ranking, segmentation, benchmarking, contribution/variance analysis and dynamic measures.
• Design scalable star-schema semantic models; handle multiple fact tables, complex relationships, composite models, calculation groups and reusable business logic.
• Engineer report and model performance using Performance Analyzer, DAX Studio and appropriate Import/DirectQuery/aggregation strategies; troubleshoot slow queries and refreshes.
• Create executive-level data storytelling experiences using advanced visuals, KPI scorecards, decomposition, waterfalls, small multiples, heatmaps, dynamic visuals and custom UX patterns.
• Own Power BI Service capabilities including workspaces, apps, semantic models, gateways, refresh, RLS/OLS, deployment pipelines and enterprise governance.
• Partner with data engineering and business teams to translate complex analytical requirements into robust BI products and reusable standards.
• Evaluate and adopt emerging Power BI/Fabric capabilities and establish development patterns, design standards and code/model review practices.

TECHNICAL SKILLS

• Expert Power BI Desktop & Service; expert DAX; advanced Power Query/M; strong SQL; enterprise semantic/data modeling.
• Strong understanding of filter context, context transition, virtual tables, calculation groups, composite models and time intelligence.
• Hands-on performance tuning with DAX Studio / Performance Analyzer; strong understanding of Import vs DirectQuery trade-offs.
• Experience with RLS/OLS, incremental refresh, deployment pipelines and enterprise Power BI administration/governance.

MODERN POWER BI / AI SKILLS

• Hands-on Power BI Copilot experience: report creation/editing, natural-language exploration, DAX assistance and narrative insights.
• Ability to design and document semantic models so they are AI-ready, with clear business definitions, metadata and trusted measures.
• Microsoft Fabric exposure, including modern semantic models and AI/analytics capabilities.
• Preferred: Tabular Editor, Power BI APIs/Embedded, Azure, Git/Azure DevOps, CI/CD, Python/R.

IDEAL CANDIDATE

7+ years of relevant Power BI/BI experience with a portfolio of genuinely complex dashboards. Must be able to explain architectural choices, DAX logic, performance fixes and how AI can enhance—not replace—analytical judgment.
