Lead Platform Engineer

We're looking for experienced Platform Engineers with a strong Java backend background who enjoy building the foundations other engineering teams rely on. You'll design and own core frameworks, data infrastructure, and shared backend services for our SaaS platform. You'll work closely with senior technical architects, take ownership of what you build, move with urgency, and work well in a team.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and maintain internal frameworks, libraries, and shared services that product teams use to ship features faster and more consistently.
• Develop backend services and APIs in Java and Spring Boot, writing clean, reusable, and maintainable code.
• Build platform components from scratch with a focus on reusability, extensibility, and clean abstractions.
• Own the data layer: schema design, query optimization, indexing, replication, and scaling strategies across MySQL and PostgreSQL.
• Design and implement caching, session management, rate limiting, and distributed locking with Redis.
• Make sure the platform is highly performant, secure, scalable, and fault-tolerant.
• Monitor key platform metrics (latency, throughput, cache hit ratio, DB load, JVM health) and fix bottlenecks before they become problems.
• Work with product management and development teams to understand their needs and turn them into platform capabilities.
• Set engineering standards, best practices, and documentation for using the platform.Qualifications
• 7+ years of backend development experience, with a strong focus on Java.
• Significant experience working on platform, infrastructure, or core backend systems.Required Skills
• Java backend development: Strong hands-on experience with core Java (collections, concurrency, multithreading, JVM internals, memory management), Spring/Spring Boot, and Hibernate/JPA. Experience building RESTful APIs and microservices.
• Framework building: Proven experience designing reusable frameworks, SDKs, or internal libraries used across multiple teams or services.
• Databases: Strong hands-on expertise in SQL, MySQL, and PostgreSQL, including data modeling, query tuning, transactions, partitioning, and handling large-scale data.
• Redis: Deep practical knowledge of Redis for caching strategies, pub/sub, distributed locks, and data structures, plus understanding of persistence and clustering.
• Strong grasp of design patterns, system design, security, performance engineering, and troubleshooting distributed systems.
• Familiarity with agile practices such as code reviews, unit and regression testing, CI/CD, and continuous deployment.Preferred Skills
• Experience building multi-tenant SaaS platforms.
• Experience with JVM performance tuning and profiling tools (JProfiler, VisualVM, or similar).
• Exposure to observability tools (Prometheus, Grafana, ELK, or similar).
• Familiarity with containerization and cloud platforms (Docker, Kubernetes, AWS/GCP).
• Experience with messaging systems such as Kafka or RabbitMQ.
