The Role

We are looking for an exceptional engineer and problem solver who can solve problems where the solution is not obvious or already known.

This is not a conventional Software Engineer or Data Scientist role.

You will work at the intersection of software engineering, algorithms, data science, machine learning, AI and distributed systems, taking extremely complex business problems from ambiguity to production.

You should be able to understand the problem, develop the algorithmic or mathematical approach, design the architecture, write critical code and ultimately make the system work at scale.

What You Will Do

Solve highly complex software, data science and optimization problems.
Design scalable, production-grade systems from scratch.
Build advanced algorithms rather than relying only on existing libraries.
Develop ML, predictive, recommendation, optimization, anomaly/fraud detection and decision systems.
Build AI-native products using LLMs, RAG, agents and human-in-the-loop architectures.
Work with large-scale, noisy and incomplete datasets.
Design distributed, real-time and high-volume systems.
Move ideas through research → prototype → architecture → production → scale.
Personally write and review critical code.
Act as a technical authority for difficult engineering and AI problems.
Mentor senior engineers and data scientists without becoming a purely managerial leader.

Anomaly and fraud detection
Deep learning
LLMs, RAG and AI agents
ML system design and production deployment

Strong mathematical and algorithmic thinking is essential.

The Person We Want

Imagine receiving a problem involving:

50M+ events, noisy data, conflicting business constraints, real-time decisions, prediction and optimization, with no existing solution that completely solves the problem.

We want the person who can break that problem apart, determine what requires algorithms, ML, optimization or conventional software, architect the solution and then actually build it.

We particularly value people who have:

Built technically difficult products from scratch
Developed proprietary algorithms
Built systems operating at significant scale
Taken complex ML systems into production
Published research or filed patents
Worked deeply across both software engineering and data science

What This Role Is NOT

We are not looking for someone whose primary experience is:

Standard ML notebooks and dashboards
Basic CRUD development
Calling LLM APIs
Managing engineers without coding
Copying existing architectures
Depending on AI-generated code without understanding it

AI tools are encouraged. Technical dependency on them is not.

How We Will Interview

No interview based primarily on memorized questions.

Candidates will be evaluated through:

Technical Depth – Deep dive into the hardest system you have personally built.
Problem Decomposition – Solve an ambiguous, complex real-world problem.
System & Algorithm Design – Architect a production solution.
Hands-On Exercise – Build an important component of that solution.
Technical Leadership – Defend your decisions with senior leadership.
