Lead Software Engineer
About The Role
We are looking for a Senior Software Engineer (P3) with a strong emphasis on front-end user experience, balanced with core backend and data capabilities. In this role, you will lead the development of rich, intuitive web applications and data visualizations that translate complex knowledge graphs, research claims, and analytics into accessible user interfaces. You will also build and maintain the backing services and APIs that drive these interfaces, collaborating closely with AI agents and downstream product teams.
Must-Have Skills:Front-End Expertise
Modern front-end development using TypeScript/JavaScript and frameworks such as React, Vue, or Next.js.
Complex data visualization techniques using libraries like D3.js, Cytoscape.js, Vis.js, or Canvas/WebGL for interactive relationship and graph renderings.
Advanced state management, client-side caching, dynamic data fetching, and web application performance optimization.
Component-driven architecture, responsive design patterns, and standard front-end testing frameworks.
Backend & Data Foundations
REST or GraphQL API development using Python or Go.
Intermediate to advanced SQL and relational database design (Postgres execution plans, indexing, zero-downtime migrations).
Cypher or an equivalent graph query language, with hands-on query performance tuning.
Integration testing across web services and multi-store backends (Postgres + graph database).
Production debugging in data-intensive, visual web applications.
Distributed systems literacy: idempotency, retries, duplicate event handling, and partial failure strategies.
Observability practice: reading dashboards, tracing front-to-back latency, and diagnosing production issues across client and server boundaries.
Active use of AI tooling in day-to-day engineering workflows.
Nice to Have
Biomedical, scientific, or scholarly-content visual analytics experience.
Experience building interactive graph nodes, canvas-based network diagrams, or large-dataset visual renders.
Experience operating knowledge graph-driven dashboards with real-time updates.
Familiarity with vector search, hybrid retrieval interfaces, or conversational AI interface design.
