IndependenceOS (Roots Health) is Looking for:
The role
Our React web apps are live with real clinics and ready to be taken further. You will lead the frontend across
web and our React Native mobile app: set the direction, make the apps fast and consistent, and keep new
features shipping on a solid foundation. This is a hands-on lead role. You will write code every day, mentor
engineers, and help grow the frontend team. Speed matters to clinics: a slow patient search or a confusing
schedule costs a practice real time.
What You Will Do
Own the frontend roadmap across web and mobile: performance, architecture, accessibility, and patient-
data (PHI) handling in the client.
Ship new features end to end with product and design, from handoff through review, feature flags and
release.
Make the heaviest flows fast with real clinical data: patient search, schedules, charts, and streaming AI
output. Work with backend teams on API shape and caching.
Build our React Native mobile app, sharing components, data and auth logic with the web apps where it
makes sense.
Pull duplicated UI into one shared component library and one shared API and auth layer, with frontend
standards and CI checks that every app follows.
Mentor engineers, review code, and help hire the next frontend engineers.
What You Bring
6+ years of professional frontend engineering, with deep expertise in React and TypeScript.
Production React Native apps shipped on iOS and Android, including App Store and Play Store releases.
Hands-on with the React Native ecosystem: Expo or bare workflow, React Navigation, native modules,
over-the-air updates, and mobile performance tuning.
You have led frontend work on an existing product: made it faster, cleaned up its architecture, and set
standards others followed.
Strong performance skills: profiling, rendering, bundle size, Core Web Vitals, caching and data fetching
(React Query or similar).
A testing habit: Vitest or Jest, React Testing Library, Playwright, and Detox or Maestro for mobile.
Experience with authentication flows (OIDC, Keycloak or similar) and permission-aware UI.
Clear writing, good mentoring, and the confidence to push back on product and design with good
reasoning.
Nice to have
Healthcare, Telehealth Or Other Regulated-industry Experience (HIPAA, PHI).
Familiarity with FHIR resources or EMR workflows such as scheduling, charting, and claims.
Real-time UI: WebSockets, streaming responses, voice.
Native code in Swift or Kotlin.
Monorepo tooling for sharing code between web and mobile (Nx, Turborepo).
Accessibility expertise (WCAG 2.2 AA).
