Backend Engineer

The role

You''d build and operate the backend services behind our products: the data models, the APIs, and the asynchronous processing the rest of the system runs on. It is work with real correctness and data-isolation requirements, in a product enterprise customers depend on.

We hire for engineering judgment rather than for a framework, and we''ll ask which part of the stack you''d rather start in.

Backend technology stack

• Languages: Python, TypeScript, Node.js
• APIs & services: FastAPI, Node.js
• Data: PostgreSQL, Redis
• Async processing: Celery, message queues, background workers
• Infrastructure: AWS, Docker, Kubernetes
• Observability: OpenTelemetry, Prometheus, Grafana
• CI/CD: GitHub Actions
• Architecture: Multi-tenant services, event-driven processing, REST APIs

What you''ll do

• Build and operate services where data integrity and isolation are hard requirements
• Model data for multi-tenant systems, and defend the model when it''s under pressure from a deadline
• Design asynchronous and queue-based processing that behaves correctly when things fail midway
• Build APIs consumed internally and by enterprise customers, and version them like someone depends on them
• Own what you ship in production, including the on-call consequences

What you''ll need

• Around three or more years building production backend services you operated, not only wrote
• Strong relational data modelling, including multi-tenant or access-scoped designs
• Solid grasp of asynchronous and background processing, and of what goes wrong in it
• API design and versioning for consumers you can''t unilaterally change
• Comfortable being responsible for correctness in production

Nice to have

• Regulated, audited or otherwise consequence-heavy domains
• Real-time or streaming systems
• Having worked productively in more than one language and ecosystem
• Performance work on data-heavy systems
• Experience supporting enterprise integrations
