Role Description

This is a full-time role for a Java Software Engineer, work from home. The Java Software Engineer will design, develop, and maintain backend services and microservices that power Protean AI’s platform features and APIs. Day-to-day responsibilities include writing clean, efficient Java code, implementing components using the Spring Framework, integrating with internal and external services, and contributing to architectural and design discussions. The role involves collaborating closely with co-founders and QA engineers to translate requirements into scalable solutions, troubleshoot issues.

Qualifications

  • Candidates should possess 3+ years of experience and possess strong Software Development skills, including experience designing and implementing backend systems and services.
  • Candidates should possess solid Programming abilities in Java, with a focus on writing clean, maintainable, and tested code.
  • Candidates should possess hands-on experience with the Spring Framework, including Spring Boot and related modules (spring cloud gateway, spring security, spring data) used in enterprise applications.
  • Candidates should possess practical knowledge of Microservices architecture, including service design, communication patterns, and scalability considerations.
  • Strong proficiency in automated testing frameworks and libraries, with hands-on experience in JUnit, Mockito, and AssertJ for unit and integration testing.
  • Familiarity with Docker and Kubernetes is an advantage.
  • Knowledge of Spring AI and Model Context Protocol (MCP) tooling is an advantage.
