Position Overview

This is the company's core AI engineering function. The role involves designing, building, and deploying production-grade AI agents and automation pipelines that take real, high-stakes accounting work off practitioners' plates. You'll work directly with PMs and founders on agentic systems that operate over large volumes of unstructured financial data, where the margin for error is zero. This is an agent-first engineering role with strong backend foundations — not a full-stack generalist role.

Role & Responsibilities

• Design, build, and deploy production AI agents — tool-calling agents, observability agents, and multi-step agentic flows — that handle real accounting workflows end-to-end
• Architect and own RAG pipelines, model deployments, and structured output flows using LangChain, LangGraph, and OpenAI/Anthropic APIs
• Build backend services and APIs using Python, FastAPI, and Django that power agentic workflows at scale
• Build pipelines that ingest, process, and reason over large volumes of unstructured financial and document data reliably at scale
• Write tests for AI pipeline logic, document parsing edge cases, and multi-step agent flows — not just happy paths
• Work directly with founders and PMs to pressure-test requirements, challenge technical direction when warranted, and pick up accounting domain context quickly
• Maintain clean API contracts with sensible error handling across internal and client-facing integrations

Must Have Criteria

• 2+ years shipping production software with a meaningful focus on AI/ML or agentic systems
• Has built and deployed at least one AI agent to production — tool-calling, multi-step, or agentic workflow
• Strong hands-on agentic engineering experience: LangChain, LangGraph, OpenAI/Anthropic APIs, RAG pipelines, and structured outputs in production
• Strong backend engineering experience with Python, FastAPI, and Django in production environments
• Has worked on systems handling large volumes of unstructured data in production
• Has deployed and managed models in production environments
• Has built observability agents or monitoring/alerting pipelines in production

Nice to Have

• Familiarity with ReactJS for frontend integration
• Has built recommendation systems in a production environment
• Prior exposure to tax, accounting, or financial document processing workflows
• Experience with document OCR
• Familiarity with AWS or GCP and Docker-based deployments
• Experience with workflow orchestration tools such as Temporal or Prefect
