Product Manager - Record to Report

EXL
Noida, Uttar Pradesh, India

Role Overview

We are looking for an experienced Product Manager to own the strategy, roadmap, design, and delivery of digital and AI-enabled products for the Record to Report domain. The role will translate controllership and close-management challenges into scalable product capabilities that improve close speed, reconciliation quality, accounting accuracy, compliance, auditability, and user productivity. The incumbent will work closely with Finance stakeholders, product engineering, data science, UX, implementation teams, and client leadership to take R2R solutions from discovery through production adoption.

Key Responsibilities

Product Strategy & Roadmap

  • Define and manage the product vision, strategy, and roadmap for R2R capabilities across general ledger, journal entry management, account reconciliations, intercompany accounting, fixed assets, close orchestration, consolidation, and financial reporting.
  • Prioritize product investments based on client needs, market relevance, business value, implementation feasibility, and measurable Finance outcomes.
  • Own the product lifecycle from discovery and concept validation through build, release, adoption, performance optimization, and product enhancement.
  • Assess product-market fit and continuously refine capabilities using user feedback, implementation insights, process benchmarks, and product performance data.

R2R Process & Solution Design

  • Lead discovery workshops with controllers, chief accounting teams, shared services leaders, and R2R operations to identify pain points, exceptions, control gaps, and automation opportunities.
  • Translate business requirements into product requirements, process flows, functional designs, user journeys, epics, user stories, acceptance criteria, and non-functional requirements.
  • Design configurable solutions for journal preparation and approval, balance-sheet reconciliations, variance analysis, close task management, intercompany matching, and reporting workflows.
  • Ensure product designs address financial controls, segregation of duties, audit trails, data lineage, evidence retention, exception handling, and regulatory requirements.

AI, Analytics & Automation

  • Define AI and automation use cases for journal recommendation and validation, reconciliation matching, anomaly detection, variance commentary, account-risk identification, close-status prediction, and intelligent exception routing.
  • Partner with AI, data science, and engineering teams to convert R2R use cases into explainable, secure, and production-ready features.
  • Design agentic workflows that coordinate data collection, validation, exception investigation, approval, and reporting while maintaining appropriate human oversight and controls.
  • Define success measures for AI-enabled features, including accuracy, exception reduction, user adoption, cycle-time improvement, control effectiveness, and model performance.

Product Delivery & Agile Execution

  • Create and maintain product requirement documents, prioritized backlogs, release plans, and product documentation.
  • Lead backlog grooming, sprint planning, product reviews, user acceptance readiness, and release sign-off with cross-functional Agile teams.
  • Coordinate engineering, QA, UX, data, security, compliance, and implementation workstreams to ensure timely and high-quality releases.
  • Manage product dependencies, risks, scope decisions, and trade-offs while maintaining alignment with customer requirements and strategic outcomes.

Client Engagement & Commercial Enablement

  • Act as a trusted product advisor during client discovery, solutioning, design workshops, demonstrations, and implementation governance.
  • Present product capabilities, R2R transformation use cases, solution value, roadmap, and ROI narratives to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Support RFP/RFI responses, solution proposals, effort estimation, product positioning, and first-engagement solutioning.
  • Create sales and implementation collateral, including demo scripts, solution one-pagers, process maps, product playbooks, and value-assessment tools.

Product Performance & Adoption

  • Define and track product and business metrics such as close-cycle duration, manual journal reduction, reconciliation auto-match rate, aged unreconciled items, exception resolution time, on-time close tasks, adoption, and user satisfaction.
  • Use product telemetry, operational data, implementation feedback, and stakeholder input to identify enhancement opportunities.
  • Drive change adoption by partnering with implementation, training, and operations teams on rollout plans, user guidance, and feedback loops.

Qualifications & Experience

  • 9-12 years of total experience, with strong exposure to Finance transformation, digital products, or enterprise technology solutions.
  • At least 4-5 years of product management, product ownership, consulting, or solution-design experience, including ownership of roadmaps and delivery backlogs.
  • Strong functional knowledge of R2R processes, including general ledger, journals, account reconciliation, intercompany, fixed assets, month-end close, consolidation, and financial reporting.
  • Experience delivering products or transformation programs from ideation through design, build, testing, deployment, adoption, and continuous improvement.
  • Working knowledge of ERP and Finance platforms such as SAP S/4HANA, Oracle Fusion, BlackLine, Trintech, OneStream, or similar solutions.
  • Experience with AI, machine learning, Generative AI, workflow automation, analytics, or intelligent document processing in Finance is strongly preferred.
  • Understanding of cloud platforms, APIs, data integration, master data, security, controls, and enterprise architecture concepts.
  • Experience working in Agile product teams; CSPO, SAFe Product Owner/Product Manager, or equivalent certification is preferred.

Skills & Competencies

  • Product strategy, roadmap management, market and user discovery, backlog prioritization, and lifecycle management.
  • Strong R2R domain expertise with the ability to connect process pain points to scalable digital product capabilities.
  • Ability to write clear PRDs, user stories, acceptance criteria, functional specifications, and executive-ready product narratives.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with an outcome-led approach to product decisions and prioritization.
  • Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills across Finance, technology, operations, and leadership audiences.
  • Ability to work cross-functionally with engineering, AI/data science, UX, QA, security, compliance, sales, and implementation teams.
  • Comfort with ambiguity, competing priorities, and fast-paced product environments.
  • Working proficiency in data analysis and visualization tools such as SQL, Excel, Power BI, or Tableau is preferred.

Preferred Profile

  • Experience in Finance and Accounting transformation, shared services, consulting, or enterprise SaaS product organizations.
  • Hands-on exposure to controllership, close transformation, reconciliation automation, or financial reporting modernization.
  • Experience creating demos, thought leadership, client proposals, and business cases for R2R transformation products.
  • Ability to bridge functional Finance requirements with technology, AI, controls, and user-experience considerations.
