Power BI lead

Role Overview

We are looking for an experienced Power BI Lead / Consultant / SME with strong hands-on expertise in Power BI development, data modeling, performance optimization, and end-to-end BI solution delivery.

The ideal candidate should be comfortable leading and coordinating a team while remaining a hands-on individual contributor. The candidate must be capable of independently understanding business requirements, engaging with stakeholders, designing scalable BI solutions, and driving projects from assessment through deployment.

Banking domain experience is mandatory, preferably with direct customer-facing project exposure. Candidates should demonstrate strong consulting capabilities, business understanding, ownership, and experience working with Fortune 500 companies or reputed IT services organizations.

Key Responsibilities

• Own end-to-end Power BI projects, including requirement gathering, assessment, solution design, development, testing, deployment, and support.
• Engage directly with business stakeholders and banking customers to understand business needs and translate them into effective BI solutions.
• Design, develop, and maintain interactive Power BI reports, dashboards, and enterprise-grade semantic models.
• Build reusable and scalable data models using dimensional modeling principles, preferably with a star schema.
• Develop complex DAX calculations and Power Query (M) transformations.
• Optimize report performance, dataset refreshes, DAX measures, and data models for scalability and efficiency.
• Write complex SQL queries for data extraction, transformation, validation, and analysis.
• Manage Power BI Service components, including workspaces, deployment pipelines, gateways, and report publishing.
• Lead and coordinate team members, delegate tasks, review deliverables, and ensure timely project execution.
• Collaborate with data engineers, DBAs, business analysts, and other cross-functional teams.
• Apply independent judgment to determine what needs to be built, how it should be built, and why.
• Document technical specifications, data mappings, development processes, and dashboard designs.
• Provide technical guidance, training, and support on Power BI best practices.

Required Technical Skills

• Strong hands-on experience in Power BI development and enterprise reporting.
• Expertise in DAX, Power Query (M), data modeling, and dashboard development.
• Strong understanding of dimensional modeling, star schema, data warehousing, and semantic models.
• Proficiency in SQL, including complex queries and data transformations.
• Experience with Power BI Service, workspaces, deployment pipelines, and gateway configuration.
• Strong understanding of report performance tuning, dataset optimization, and refresh management.
• Experience delivering BI solutions from requirement analysis to production deployment.

Mandatory Experience and Competencies

• Banking domain experience is mandatory.

Preferred Candidate Background

• Experience with Fortune 500 companies or reputed IT services organizations.
• Strong academic background from reputed colleges or universities.
• Experience working on customer-facing banking projects, preferably involving business-critical reporting and analytics.
• Demonstrated ability to translate business problems into practical, scalable BI solutions.
